We had the good fortune of connecting with Jayla Asare and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jayla, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
My main goal in life is to impact my community and the world at large in the most positive way I can. When I first started The Bougie Brunch Girl (my Instagram page and website), I did it to provide resources for people while also exploring restaurants for fun. When the pandemic hit, I realized that I actually had an opportunity to support smaller businesses and spread the word about them on my page or my website. I know that no matter how large or small my platform is, I can make a difference. Whether I’m shouting a restaurant out on my IG story or posting about a family-owned restaurant in my neighborhood, I am actively making sure that my platform is being used to help others while also providing resources the best way I can.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently, I work as a Medical Receptionist/Administrative Assistant for a world-renowned plastic surgeon. There were definitely a lot of twists and turns on the path to get here, but it prepared me for my profession today. In addition to my 9-5, I also run my page and website for The Bougie Brunch Girl and my YouTube channel. I feel like society teaches us to pick one career or one box and stick to that forever, but I’m someone who is multi-faceted, and I embrace that. Yes, I work in medicine, but I also want to host a talk show. Who says you can’t do both?
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is the perfect question for me because I love an itinerary! Let’s say we weren’t in the midst of a pandemic, we would definitely be brunching most days of the week. We’d have to check out Perch and Poppy + Rose in DTLA, Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen and Simply Wholesome off of Slauson, and The Maybourne in Beverly Hills for a true bougie experience. Then, one day we’d go to Playa del Rey and enjoy a little beach picnic before dinner at Bottega Louie. If it’s the summertime, we’re definitely hitting a day party, maybe Thank You LA or Everyday People.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who have been instrumental in my success, but I have to give a special shoutout to my mom. She believed in me when I didn’t even believe in my self, and she’s supported every single thing I’ve done. She never judged or criticized me for changing careers or wanting to delve into my creativity; she pushed me to pursue it! Her encouragement is what keeps me going and makes me believe that no dream is too big. Not even the sky is the limit ✨
