Meet Jazmin Anderson | Business Owner & Community Leader

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmin Anderson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazmin, how does your business help the community?
CornLadyLA has a strong belief in community uplift. We exemplify the need to support our community by providing extraordinary customer service, and ensure love in every bite of our menu items. CornLadyLA was derived out of passion to satisfy taste buds and put smiles on faces. Elote has been a staple in my life as a LA native. Our mission is aimed to bring the community together and to open the eyes of the community that we are able to come together over food and create a stronger community one meal at a time.
The owner of Corn Lady LA is also the Founder of a an amazing nonprofit organization named The Helpful Homegirls with a mission to serve the youth and unhoused population in the community!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a business owner I have learned valuable lessons many in which have taught me how to be a better business owner. From learning more about the product that sell and importance product quality, bookkeeping and making sure to create an effective budget , while also improving my customer experiences, and creating new menu items.
Being a small business owner has its challenges especially since I haven’t been able to fully indulge in being a full time business owner as I still work a 9-5 job that requires a lot of my time. I also have a non profit organization named The Helpful Homegirls that serves the community and I am also a Neighborhood Representative for Council District 9 in LA City. I wear a multitude of hats throughout the day that require my attention, and effort. I know that it is something that I look forward to in the near future as I am working very hard to not only to have a brick and motar franchise in the near future but to also be a full time boss. Being able to manage my personal life, work life, entrepreneurial life, and other extracurricular activities and still remaining focused and consistent can be challenging when you are trying to find the balance. Also, the amount of resources available for small businesses can be hard to find in my neighborhood. I plan to create a space for business owners like myself to come together and discuss our needs and have round table on how we can work together to accomplish our goals.
Many people know how me as the Corn Lady but don’t know all the hardwork, back aching labor I put in my business to put smiles not only on their faces but on their bellies. From shucking corn to cleaning, cooking and serving corn it is hard work.I really enjoy seeing all the happy faces from them enjoying the yummy corn and other menu items.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When visiting LA I feel as though there are many staples that you must visit. I would start with a quick trip to San Pedro to the White Point Beach to relax and watch the waves. Next, we would go grab breakfast at Watt’s Coffee House. Order the “on the 1 Gangsta” 1 pork chop, 1 chicken wing, 1 hot link sausage, 1 salmon croquette, grits, smothered potatoes, and freshly made biscuits. For Lunch I would go to Cabo Cantina for nachos, chicken wings and a cocktail. If you looking for something local I would recommend a Super Fish on Crenshaw for a good fish lunch combo. For some afternoon fun I would visit a VR place, six flags or sky diving. For dinner/ night fun I would go to Hive and Honey Rooftop Bar for some nice entertainment and drinks. Visiting the spa is also an amazing way to relax. I enjoy going to Burke Williams in Hollywood.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank everyone in my life that teach me life lessons or just provide me with support and constant encouragement to keep me going on my journey.
