Meet Jazmin Castello | Business Coach & Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmin Castello and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazmin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always wanted to start my own business, so for me, it was never a question of “if” but instead a question of “what”. Entrepreneurism is a big part of my personality; I was always the kid with a “side hustle”. After trying a million different things (as most entrepreneurs do), I realized that something major wasn’t clicking… and that something was purpose. From this realization, my business was born. Now I get to make a living from teaching others how to create and grow their own businesses too.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Startup Shop is a place for female entrepreneurs to gain the knowledge and skills they need to turn their business ideas into realities. As a business coach and educator, I offer a variety of classes, workshops, and coaching that are specially designed for those whose goal is to start and grow a small business. I think what sets my business apart from others in the same industry is that I cater specifically to women. I think it’s important to recognize that there is still so much stigma around women owning their own businesses, and because of that, the opportunities, understanding, and resources available to female entrepreneurs is limited. The goal of my business is to close that gap and provide a place for women to access those same resources from someone who can relate to them because I’m a woman too.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t get out much, but when I do I like to eat, shop, and laugh so naturally my favorite places in the city are restaurants, shopping centers, and comedy clubs. LA is full of delicious restaurants so you can literally walk into any and it will likely be great! My favorite places to shop are The Grove and Santa Monica Place and the best comedy clubs are The Laugh Factory on Sunset and The Comedy Store.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I want to give a shoutout to my husband, Randy. I’m very fortunate to have found someone that encourages “dream chasing” and fully supports all my ventures. Next, I want to give a shoutout to my dad. He was my first example of what it looks like to own your own business, and I think my love for business came from him. Finally, my business would not exist without my friend and colleague, Judith Marquez. She introduced me to the corner of the beauty industry where my business has grown the most.
