Meet Jazmine Jamal | Licensed Massage Therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmine Jamal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazmine, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Native to Maryland, also known as as the DMV metropolitan region has a huge impact on who I’ve become today. We are hard working creatives who always find a way to make our dreams come true. Growing up, I was always surrounded by creativity. Whether going to plays produced and directed by my grandma or taking walks around Washington, DC. I was surrounded by art, love and family. I come from a family of mostly women who taught me to be strong, fierce and adventurous. I saw them continuously elevate within their government careers. My mom more specifically impacted my choice to become an entrepreneur. As a young child, I watched her create a balance of being a government employee and owning her own business. Eventually making enough to leave her government job. She became a full time entrepreneur. Giving her the advantage of being present in my life full-time. My mom always leads by example and she always taught me that with hard word and dedication, whatever I dreamed of will come true. With that in mind, I always knew that I would be a multifaceted entrepreneur. I started 521 wellness as a mobile massage practice named “mobilewithjazmine” later on it changed to “Spa 521” because I then grew enough clientele to open a suite space. My business has brought me all the way across country to LA. Since being here, I’ve restarted but with knowledge and experience. I’ve went from rebuilding clientele to massaging some of your favorite celebrities. I’ve also realized that my message is bigger than just Spa 521 so I’ve created 521 wellness. 521 wellness is the umbrella of it all. Showcasing our motto “be happy. be healthy. be relaxed” we have Spa 521 which is our mobile massage practice for individuals, events, retreats, and corporate outings, The 521 Club, our newest piece to the puzzle that brings individuals who are interested in incorporating wellness into their everyday lives but just can’t seem to start. We host group activities such as hikes, beach days, yoga sessions, meditation guides, paint and sips & much more! They’ll always be the first in the 521 community to receive the 411. As this community grows it excites me for what’s in store. Lastly, there’s 521 publishing which host our stress relieving products, journals, coloring books, clothing, and more! As my company grows, I will always remember that it started with the action of just doing! Going after my dreams lead me to this and will hopefully lead me to opening a spa of my own in the near future. Sometimes you may see all the pieces but not sure how to get there. My advice, keep going, keep achieving, keep taking action! We post weekly body care articles exclusively on the YSDWYSD APP. This is called the Bodycare Journal where I help individuals stay balanced through the busyness of life and achieving their goals. The take away is to make sure you are always taking care of yourself first. So if you’re in need for tips and tricks on bodycare, that’s a good place to start. My upbringing taught me community is everything. By surrounding yourself with love and care, your dreams will always come true.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
In this journey of spreading body care awareness, it’s significant to remind others to Be healthy- nourish your body, Be happy- enjoy the little things in life, & lastly Be relaxed- always make time for self love. This is what sets us apart from others. I started this brand after one year of completing massage therapy school. Honestly, that was the most challenging part thus far. Starting over and going back to school was not something I saw in my future during that time in my life. I was in the middle of contemplating a career change but scared to take the leap and fully commit. During school, I worked two jobs and struggled to keep up with my hours. Trying to do it all lead me to graduating with the class behind. In what I thought was a set back, I started to give up. I was so close and had to add just a few more weeks onto my schooling. The most frustrating thing ever when you feel like you’re doing your best at trying to stay afloat. I did not give up and later, I realize it actually was the best thing for me. I gained more knowledge on top of what I already knew, networked with different classmates, and joined some of the best continuing education classes because I made a connection with my then new instructor. Once I saw a glimpse of the vision, I did not let my foot off the gas. I’ve learned that entrepreneurship will always have its challenges, it’s a matter of how you face them that will determine whether you sink or swim. There’s always a solution to your problem and sometimes there’s more than one. While in the thick of my business I decided to move across country. Nervous to restart, I took a leap and haven’t looked back. It was a huge obstacle overcoming gaining clientele. I was able to reach the level I am today but consistently reaching out to people I knew in the area, partnering with local businesses to do pop ups, posting on social media, and offering referral programs. Through this I’ve learned that people respect passion. When you are truly passionate about what you do, it shows and everything will flow how it’s meant.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In a weeks span we would have time to visit all of my favorite restaurants and hikes. I’m a foodie who loves nature. Here’s a list of where I would take them:
1. Santa Monica- we would go to brunch at 1212 and do a bit of sight seeing. I love walking through the neighborhoods of Santa Monica.
Stop for a pick me up at MUD/WTR- love the wellness and cafe vibes here plus the mushroom lattes are delicious!
From there we have to do desert at Holey Grail donuts!
2. Brunch at My2centsLA for their delicious shrimp and grit and strawberry cake! Head over to the Hollywood sign horseback trail and finish with a fruit cup! Dinner at Yamashiro!
3. Head down to 1000 steps beach! One of my favorite beaches and it comes with a work out! – dinner at Woon
4. Hiking day at paradise cove trail! This amazing trail leads to a waterfall. Dinner at Shibuya!
5. Spend a day in little Tokyo with lunch at TOT, 82 arcade, venture downtown fashion district and stop for parking lot tacos on 4th street.
6. Hiking at Runyon and Hollywood walk of fame. Finish dinner at TAO.
7. Spend the day in Malibu. Point dume & Cielo Farms winery. Dinner at Mia’s Thai.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this to my partner, My mom & family, & my 521 Club family. Without them I would not be where I am today.
