We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazmyne Huerta and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jazmyne, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In 2012, after earning my associate degree, I decided to pursue my passion and start my own business. Photography and graphic design have always been my natural talents, and I wanted to use them to create meaningful work. While living in Texas for three years, my business grew significantly. During this time, I worked on numerous projects, particularly focusing on weddings, civil ceremonies, and family photo sessions, which helped me refine and improve my skills.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I specialize in maternity, weddings, civil ceremonies, and family sessions, with a passion for candid photography that tells a unique story. Working with hearing clients, who make up 80% of my work, was a challenge at first. I relied on gestures and determination to communicate, and over time, my confidence and skills grew.

The key to my journey has been consistency, resilience, and a deep passion for my craft. My story is about overcoming challenges and staying committed to preserving life’s most precious memories through timeless photography.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ll be honest—I didn’t have the guidance of a mentor or formal mentorship as I built my business. Instead, I relied on my own determination, curiosity, and passion for learning. I’m incredibly thankful for being self-taught and for the skills I’ve been able to develop on my own.

However, I do owe a big part of my growth to the incredible photography communities on Facebook. These groups provided not only inspiration but also a supportive space to learn, share, and receive constructive feedback. Seeing other photographers’ work, engaging in discussions, and learning from their experiences gave me a sense of connection and helped me push myself to improve.

So, my shoutout goes to those online communities and to the photographers who generously shared their knowledge and creativity. Their support has been invaluable, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without their contributions to my journey.
