We had the good fortune of connecting with Jazzé Elements and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jazzé, what is the most important factor behind your success?
That’s an easier said than done answer. But, 1000% Belief in myself and owning it. So often we can be the only thing in our way of success. Simply because we don’t believe it can happen for us or that we deserve it. Or we can think we are being cocky and boastful, and Or, in my case it was the “What happens if it does work” what’s next, can I handle the pressure, demand, etc. And to add one more thing to that, knowing what I’m truly doing it for. Knowing my mission and then believing in it with everything I have, Is my success.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There’s so much I can say about my story that’s why I write music. It has always been easier for me to sing my feelings than say them in just plain words.
Music is my expression, I’m sad, I sing, happy, I sing, mad, sing, excited, sing.. you get the picture right.
Getting to where I’m at right now today. Was the hardest easiest thing I haven’t even started yet in my life. Sound ridiculous right .. well it is.
I ask myself often (knowing where i was just 3years ago) how did I get here? Did I actually choose all this? Ya know the epiphany set up lol. But when it comes down to it everything I went through to get here I did choose and I know exactly how I got here.
I chose me! And by choosing me I Chose music. And music is probably the hardest career decision you can make. And I knew that that’s why up till then I hadn’t. But everything up till then was not set up to have me succeed in music it was for me to survive my environment.
But by choosing me and choosing music. It closed the door to a lot of the chaos, and dysfunction I was in based off of the environmental effects. You are what your around. You are who you hang out with. Etc .. but then it opened the door to unknown .. up till then I knew nothing of the music industry, or what I didn’t know.
The unknown was sometimes good simply cause it wasn’t the past but sometimes it meant serious changes needed in me. But I think that’s what we are most scared of and why we stay with the familiar, is the fear of change and the unknown of change but me I learned and am learning that in a weird way I thrive in it. And had been trying to find that in one way or another in my now “past life”. But couldn’t due to limitations in my environment.
The crazy thing is by choosing me which to the naked ear sounds selfish and lonely and believe me I did feel selfish at one point and felt very guilty because of it and I for sure lived in loneliness and depression in result for a long time as well .. but it’s the other side of all of that, that really shows you why it’s worth it to choose you and in my case choose music, when the universe saids.
I learned humanity in a way I never had,
And true meaning and feelings of
Prejudice, classism, racism, sexism, ageism, misfortune, karma, revenge, dignity, equality, equity, knowledge, sacrifice, compromise, wisdom, favor, grace, communication, relationship the list goes on and on .. and you’d think .. you big dummy we know what thoes are .. and that’s the thing I thought I did too .. until I experienced it outside of my environment. As learn that if I know anything I know that’s I know nothing at all. And that’s the truest statement I can share. And all of that expanded and set my mission from what I thought I was doing this for to what I am really meant to be doing this for.
I learned the way to over come it all is to be the best version of you..
Things are forever in flux, always changing and if you learn how to feel home and grounded in the mist of change (life) that’s when you truly begin to live. So I mastered adaptivity.
What does all this have to do with me being a vocalist and my brand as an artist.
It’s that’s I am what I am most proud of because I have learned how to make it easy to be “me” in this world.
By being able to accept being a vocalist and poet and musician and coach and performer, entertainer. For me first, and for everyone like me who is different but has a familiar story they have yet to shared with the world their own unique way.
My brand is build off of the freedom of the elements. How they can work together or stand alone. How they each have something unique that only they can bring to the world. And one may be more popular or known but they all have there moment to shine and show why they were placed in earth .. in intersectionally with the true meaning of Jazz, freedom, improvisation and an evolution of classical styles.
Jazzé Élements stand for all forms of art, creativity and uniqueness that’s makes “one” them selves. Through freedom of expression and root of classic improvisation and creation .. do all elements come together and evolve.
Showing by example that you can be like me, you can be like you.. and have everything, just to loose it all just so you can learn how to get it back the right way. How you can have challenges that aren’t even challenges but blessings and lessons.. designed to get you to where you asked/were meant to be, In a personal sense. And lastly that we can all heal through music, and that I am meant to offer my story and journey through music as a declaration to that notion.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m always game for something active, hiking, or zipeline, even walking on the beach. Depends on the friend. But music’s always a go to as well. Go to a jam at a jazz bar or restaurant with live music and get a drink at the bar. I’m a big kid I love the zoo and aquarium. Nature walk. Even a museum or a wine tasting.
However, there are somethings I want to try that I haven’t yet. Like hit air balloon, archery, an escape room, rage room, horse back riding.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, thanks will always go to God, with out him and his grace I wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t have this gift or the ability to share it!
Equal too is, My queen My mom is the reason I believe in myself at all. Since 3 she has been able to find and put me into whatever musical avenue she could afford to nurture her childs gifts. And for that I own her my life.
My MaMa, my grandma, she believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself and always encouraged me to just “sing” no matter what! And then and now she would be proud because I am!
My Dad, he gave me the “jazz” in Jazzé, by being born from the roots of New Orleans to speaking, living and being Jazz. I guess is genetic. Cause it was definitely passed down in more ways than just playing the greats.
My choir/ vocal teachers and trainers:
The late Lizabeth Diaz and Mrs. Angela Armbruster. Both of these amazing woman went past the expectations of a choir teacher or vocal coach .. they taught me how to understand my gift and be the best version of me .. and pushed me in the best ways possible.
Lastly might sound clique but I owe a lot of my write material, and evoked emotions to my ex’s, one in particular lol but I name no names.. but really, I thank them for giving me the words to express the feelings and experiences I went through with them, to someone else who might need that to heal as I did. Through good, the bad and the ugly.
