We had the good fortune of connecting with Jebbs Rodrigues and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jebbs, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
As an entrepreneur, taking risks is an inherent part of the journey. While there’s no guaranteed formula for success, taking calculated risks can help you seize opportunities and propel your business forward. Remember, successful risk-taking involves finding the right balance between caution and boldness. By adopting a strategic and calculated approach, you can navigate the entrepreneurial landscape more effectively and increase your chances of success.

Recognize that entrepreneurship involves venturing into the unknown. Embrace uncertainty and develop a mindset that allows you to adapt and learn from challenges and setbacks. Before taking any major risks, conduct comprehensive market research and analysis. Gather data and insights about your target audience, competitors, industry trends, and potential risks. Instead of diving headfirst into a high-risk endeavor, consider starting small and testing your ideas. This approach allows you to validate your assumptions, gather feedback, and make adjustments before committing significant resources. As an entrepreneur, you’ll often need to make decisions with incomplete information. Trust your instincts, especially when you have experience and knowledge in a particular domain.

Last but not least entrepreneurship can be challenging, and setbacks are inevitable. Maintain a positive mindset and cultivate resilience. See risks as opportunities for growth and innovation, and remember that even unsuccessful ventures can lead to valuable experiences and long-lasting friendships.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

I can say that things are not always easy; the journey of an entrepreneur in the hospitality industry can be both challenging and rewarding. The journey begins with the entrepreneur identifying a gap or opportunity in the hospitality market. The need to brainstorm ideas and develop a unique concept for the hospitality business, considering factors such as target market, location, and competitive advantage. market research, analyzing customer preferences, and defining the business’s value proposition.

Entrepreneurs in the hospitality industry face various challenges, such as intense competition, staffing and training issues, regulatory compliance, fluctuating market demand, and evolving customer expectations. However, with a strong vision, strategic planning, adaptability, and a customer-centered approach, any entrepreneur can overcome these challenges and create a successful and sustainable hospitality business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m from Miami, so first things first, we must start with a morning Cafecito. I would then start my day at the Griffith Observatory with a hike to admire the panoramic views of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Sign. Visit the Getty Center, a world-class art museum. Admire the impressive collection of European paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts and then head to Santa Monica Pier for a stroll along the beach, enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, and stop for brunch at Gjelinas a renowned restaurant in the cool and hip neighborhood of Venice. Perhaps have a glass of Rose and then head on a Bike stroll along the beach boardwalk with Malibu as a background.

I will then take you to explore the vibrant neighborhood of Downtown Los Angeles. Visit the iconic Grand Central Market for a diverse range of food stalls and grab a bite to eat. Discover the impressive collections at The Broad, a contemporary art museum featuring works by renowned artists like Andy Warhol and Jeff Koons. Have dinner at Bestia, or Perch both very trendy restaurants in the Arts District.

To end the trip, I would probably take you Bar hopping in West Hollywood, which is a lot of fun. Some of my favorite spots are No Vacancy, Black Rabbit Rose, Employees Only, La Descarga, Laurel Hardware, The Roosevelt Bar, and Skybar at Mondrian.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

First and foremost, I would like to dedicate this shout-out to my incredible friends and family, especially my mother, Celina Rodrigues. Throughout my journey, she has been my rock, keeping me grounded and offering unwavering support. I owe much of my success to her belief in me.

I must give a special mention to my daughter, Sophia Colette. Her boundless energy, curiosity, and resilience inspire me daily. She reminds me of the importance of chasing my dreams and never giving up. Sophia, you are my greatest inspiration, and I am eternally grateful for your presence in my life.

My partner, Rachel Mason, has been my unwavering pillar of strength. Her support, love, and understanding have been invaluable on this journey. Together, we have conquered challenges and celebrated successes. Rachel, thank you for your enduring presence in my life, and here’s to many more cherished moments and shared bottles of wine.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to Katherine Hucker and her family. They took me under their wing and showed me endless possibilities. Katherine and her family have not only been mentors but also extended family to me. Additionally, I would like to thank my colleagues and other individuals who have provided guidance and wisdom along the way. Their insights have truly shaped my journey, both personally and professionally.

There have been countless organizations, books, and resources that have been instrumental in my development. Whether it’s through their knowledge, inspiring stories, or practical advice, they have expanded my horizons and shaped my path.

To all those who have played a part, big or small, in my story, I want to express my deepest gratitude. Your contributions, support, and belief in me have made an immense difference. I am humbled and forever grateful for each and every one of you.
