Meet Jeff Thorslund | Singer/Guitarist/Songwriter for Thorslund

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeff Thorslund and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jeff, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Being able to share our music with others. Everybody is good at something, and for my brother and me our talent has always been music. We’re music fans and a love of making and listening to music has always uplifted me during tough times. I find it to be the most powerful artwork, that makes you feel the most emotions. It makes me happy to be able to pursue what feels like my purpose and share music with others. And hopefully they find a strong emotional response to it as well.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My brother and I have been playing music together since we were preteens in Canada. We’ve had many bands together, but our latest group Thorslund is the culmination of everything that came before. We are excited to be at a stage in our lives where we have quite a good mastery of our instruments and of production techniques. We can create the music we always wanted to listen to. I put an emphasis on songwriting, with musical hooks that is fun and uplifting but also serious at time. We moved to LA together about two years ago, which was exciting but also a challenge since we needed to start over with building connections, getting to know venues and finding a new bassist for our live show. We were also raised in a very controlling religious environment that didn’t encourage people to chase their dreams or to seek fame for their talents. We escaped this organization and feel like we are finally answering our true calling.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love live music, whether it’s catching a local show at the Viper Room or Harvard and Stone, or a big concert at the Hollywood Bowl. I am also of big fan of tiki culture so I spend a lot of my free time exploring and finding new tiki bars. Some of my favorites in the city are Broken Compass in Burbank, also because they serve food. I also like Kahuna Tiki Tu which has great sushi and the very classic and original Tonga Hut. Another favorite that is somewhat tiki is the Warehouse in Marina Del Rey. We are also fans of theme parks, We have season passes to Universal Studios which we can walk to from our house. We love Disney and try to visit as much as possible.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We wouldn’t have a band without the support of our parents growing up. It started with piano lessons at a young age, but evolved as we got older to helping us buy our first instruments, and the patience of listening to a young drummer and rock band pound away in the basement of our Canadian childhood home. We had a place to practice and be loud and they supported us.
