We had the good fortune of connecting with Jen & Angelo Perfecto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jen & Angelo, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The idea for my business formed when my daughter Atasha kept asking for taho when we came back from our trip in the Philippines; she had grown fond of it during our vacation. Being a sweet tooth myself and having experience in making desserts for family and friends, I used my passion to start my business in 2019. In fact, I even sold taho kits during the COVID-19 pandemic to help provide for my family during that difficult time. Now, I am glad I am able to keep my business running — spreading delight through beloved Filipino treats.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My business is all about Filipino desserts, and I believe our authenticity sets us apart from others — whether it is the traditional way we make the desserts or the classic ice cream carts and metal taho containers we use that you would typically see in the Philippines. Getting my business to where it is today definitely wasn’t easy, especially during the pandemic because it was hard to get supplies due to limited stock. Selling our desserts in a safe way due to COVID-19 restrictions also proved challenging, but my husband and I learned to never quit despite these obstacles, and now our hard work has paid off.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

If I were to tour someone around LA, I would definitely take them to the big theme parks like Disneyland and Universal Studios Hollywood, as well as popular tourist spots like the Hollywood sign, Griffith observatory, the Grove, and the Americana. Of course, no trip to LA is complete without good eats, so I would take them to the best ramen in town — Daikokuya — and treat them to some pastries at Porto’s bakery. Of course, I would also have them sample some of my taho and sorbetes in Glendale!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A big thank you to Miss Alethea De Jesus and Mylene Mitra for all the help.
