We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Cooper and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Starting off as a photographer allowed me to truly connect with people, breaking down their walls and capturing their essence. I often say that when I photograph someone, it’s like a form of visual psychology. My goal is to make my subjects feel at ease, safe, and comfortable enough to be their authentic selves, free from filters or insecurities. This passion for connection later led me to roles as a photo editor, fashion producer, and eventually into PR and Marketing for a talent agency. All these creative layers of my career have guided me to where I am today.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I run my own branding, PR, and photography company, working with a diverse range of clients including professional athletes, actors, model agencies, and fashion brands. What I’m most proud of is the journey I’ve created for myself. Coming from a background with no direct access to the fashion industry, I relied on drive, ambition, and passion to carve out my own path.

I majored in photography and earned my BFA, which led to roles as a photo editor for top online publications like *Car & Driver*, *ELLE*, *ELLE Girl*, *Premiere*, *ESSENCE*, and NBC’s digital platforms. Now, one of my key roles is serving as the Director of PR and Branding for the Creators Division at The Industry Model Management. I also represent artists, actors, and fashion brands.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way are invaluable: never give up, never take “no” for an answer, and always create your own lane. Standing out in a crowded industry requires honesty and authenticity. Life is short, and taking risks is essential. My journey hasn’t been easy—I’ve faced financial challenges and the fear of the unknown—but leading with my heart in everything I do has been both a blessing and a curse. In the end, staying true to who you are is what sets you apart.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a New Yorker who moved to LA a year ago, I’ve discovered some favorite spots that I love to share. The beach brings me the most peace, so I’d recommend heading to Malibu for a scenic drive along Pacific Coast Highway while playing your favorite tunes. There’s also this magical spot with white dunes where I once did a photoshoot—it’s an incredible place to visit, though the name escapes me at the moment.

For a quick bite, a cup of coffee, or an ice cream cone, I love the Brentwood Farm Market Shops in Santa Monica. Afterward, a classic hike to take in the California sunset or sunrise is a must. LA, for me, is all about resetting, especially coming from the fast-paced life of New York. And if you’re looking for a great dining experience, Mr. Chow is my go-to restaurant.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my story to my mom. She has been my unwavering support since I was a little girl. She bought me my first camera while working three jobs as a single mom, and she never gave up on my dreams, even when the path was uncertain. I love her with all my heart, and she is truly my hero. Even at her weakest, while battling cancer, she stood by me and cheered me on through my unpredictable journey to where I am today. I am incredibly grateful to have such a role model in my life. Her strength gives me motivation in my weakest times cause if you have faith and believe in yourself anything is possible.
