We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Swann and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jennifer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my own business because I saw a need and I knew I could fill it. As the mother of two children with high care needs, I’ve navigated a lot in the past 18 years — everything from medical emergencies and 24-hour medical care with my daughter to significant behavioral and social emotional challenges with my son. I spent years feeling overwhelmed and chronically depleted. I loved my children and I was fiercely committed to providing them both with the best of me, and yet I lost myself in that process. A part of me just accepted that “this is how it is.” I believed I was just destined to play this part of a caregiver, and that that required that I sacrifice myself. I could intuitively feel that I was being called to something more than “surviving” this caregiving role, and yet I didn’t know what that was, and I had absolutely convinced myself that I couldn’t actually do anything more than I was already doing as a mom to these two kids.

I reached a breaking point many years back, and realized something had to change. I started implementing processes and strategies to support myself, and I got intentional with my time and with the “system” of support I was building for myself. I started a deep, introspective dive into me — into spirituality, into energy, into my beliefs. This deep dive continues to this day. And while I will never be done growing and evolving, today, I can say that I have reached a point where I no longer operate from a place of overwhelm and exhaustion — even though the circumstances still demand a lot of me. I love my life, I love my work, I have a completely transformed relationship with my caregiving role, and I am able to flow with the changing demands – caregiver call-offs, insurance nonsense, school district issues, medical curveballs, etc.

I see myself in families all over the world — families bracing for the next fight, struggling to keep their head above water mentally and emotionally, and exhausted by the demands of raising children with special needs. And I see them experiencing the same desperation that I experienced. It’s a quiet ache for something more life-giving — with greater ease, flow, and joy. And yet, there’s a resignation among these families that “this is just how it is.”

I feel called to offer special needs families all over the world the same set of tools, processes, and strategies that have helped me completely transform my experience as a mom to two kids with special needs. My vision is to see these families embrace the journey for what it is, but let go of their beliefs about the ways that it limits their ability — or their child’s ability — to build lives that they absolutely love, right in the middle of it all.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the Founder and Executive Director of the Peace, Power & Possibility Institute. We are the only one-of-its-kind (for-profit) support hub and training center for families ready to completely transform their experience of parenting a child with special needs.

We operate under a three-pillar structure that meets parents exactly where they are and teaches them how to navigate this journey in more life-giving ways. The Institute offers digital courses, live teaching and mentoring sessions, an online membership community, a limited number of one-on-one mentoring slots, an e-book, and we have an app in development.

In Pillar One (Stabilize), we learn how to get out of survival mode, intentionally build a support system (including within the special education system), and we associate with like-minded people — people who are sick and tired of being chronically depleted, overwhelmed, and feeling stuck — and are taking action to shift out of that. In Pillar Two (Shift), we learn to let go of our beliefs about what it means to be a caregiver or to have a disability, we step out of circumstance-controlled living, and we claim more life right in the middle of these challenging circumstances. In Pillar Three (Soar), we learn how to consciously create our highest quality of life, right now! In this pillar (launching soon!), parents will have access to mastery-level metaphysical teachings that illuminate the true nature of consciousness, healing, and human potential.

The Institute was not an overnight success. As I launched my initial course offering — called Unlimited. Empowering you. Empowering your child, it became clear that far too many parents saw the message as inspiring but aspirational. I realized I needed to “back up the bus,” so to speak. I didn’t want to leave anyone behind who wanted to join us! This is ultimately how the three-tiered structure came into being. I started creating content and courses that met these parents where they were — teaching them first, how to get out survival mode using tools, practices, and strategies to create more capacity for themselves and to start intentionally creating their own support system. The response to this course — Creating Capacity: restoring capacity, time, and self– was overwhelming, and this is now where almost all students start this journey.

I have to be honest — I spent more than a dozen years watching my daughter live her absolute best life despite navigating Spinal Muscular Atrophy, without realizing that I was not living my best life. My daughter cannot move, she requires a ventilator to breathe, a feeding tube to eat, and requires assistance with all tasks. And yet, she lives the most uninhibited life of anyone I know. She loves doing musical theater, she was in her high school show choir and color guard her freshman year, and she is completely unafraid to be seen exactly as she is. I had a profound moment of awareness in the Fall of 2024 when I was sharing her story with a branding expert. He insisted I needed to share our journey. I balked. “How am I going to do that while I’m a caregiver?” “I don’t have time for that.” “That’s crazy talk.”

In an instant, I realized that I was using my caregiving role as the excuse to not live into my best life — all the while having a front row seat to my daughter living without limits. In that moment, I knew what I was being called to do. We have now shared our story on the TEDx stage in a mother-daughter talk, where my daughter was the first person ever to use a speech generating device operated by her eyes to deliver a TEDx talk.

As the Founder of the Peace, Power & Possibility, I am deeply devoted to supporting other special needs families as they navigate a path they didn’t feel prepared to walk. I am both humbled and grateful that my own path in life has led me here.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Without a doubt, I would take a friend who was visiting to the beach! In particular, I’m a huge fan of Laguna Beach. I love how easy it is to access the beach itself, and the town’s quirky little shops, artistry, and storefronts are a must. You can see the beautiful coastline to the north and south and it’s breathtaking.

A drive down Pacific Coast Highway would also be a must! I’d drive right by my old stomping grounds, where I lived off Chautauqua Blvd & PCH in a tiny studio apartment after finishing my undergraduate degree at U.S.C. before heading to law school.

I would also make sure my friend sees some of the beautiful spots we have in Southern California that showcase the diversity of our natural beauty — the Santa Monica Mountains, Temescal Canyon, Big Bear, Palm Springs. I just love how we are about an hour or two from the oceans, the mountains, and the desert. What a gift it is to live here!

My favorite restaurant is the Melting Pot. Come hungry, and save room for chocolate! Sadly, the local Melting Pots have disappeared over the years — but there’s still one in Thousand Oaks!! And yes, we have made that almost 2-hour drive on occasion from the OC just to eat there!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to thank Kirsten Welles for her unwavering support and encouragement on my journey. Kirsten is one of the most masterful mentors I’ve ever had — always holding me and my dreams in the light of Truth, and always helping me find my way back to the Divine when I get caught up in circumstances. She has, without a doubt, been an integral part in shaping who I am today.
