We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Villegas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Straight out of high school I was in the medical field medical assistant to be exact. I stumbled across a job interview as an ophthalmic assistant and the rest is history. After many years of trying to get into a hospital I finally got my dream job as an ophthalmic photographer at Kaiser Permanente. I didn’t stop there I always strive to be better and I quickly learned that being an ophthalmic photographer wasn’t my dream job after all. I didn’t want to be stuck in a clinic I loved being around cameras and taking pictures so I decided to buy a camera of my own and do photography as a hobby on the side since my hospital job is part time. I enjoyed doing my photography on the side it gave me a little best of both worlds doing what I love. After 5 years of being a photographer I decided to make it official and start my business it was the most scariest yet rewarding decision I’ve ever made. Here we are almost a year later of having my own business and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What should our readers know about your business?
Having my own business and working a part time job has been the biggest challenge for me. It is definitely not easy but I am proud to say that I made it happen and I would like to use my story to let everyone know that anything is possible you just need consistency and believe in yourself. Knowing how to set goals and achieve them is an important process. Goal setting is powerful for creating motivation and giving clarity.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a fun and exciting week in cali Disneyland is a must a Disney day is always a great time. Wineries in the Temecula area. I love sunrise/sunsets at laguna beach, beach dates are always fun. For food my top favorite places are boiling crab, Korean bbq and any sports bars really.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband and my daughter have always been my number one supporters since day one. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. It takes a village to make a business work and they keep me motivated to keep going even when times get tough.
