We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Ponzuric and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenny, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I spent years working within the public school system, and while I loved working with students, families, and my site-specific staffs, I became increasingly passionate about ways to support schools beyond the ones I was assigned to. I had some great opportunities to create workshops for the district based on some of the work my school site teams and I had done. This fueled my desire to reach more schools and find more ways to make system-wide changes. The turning point came when the demand for my workshops generated considerable interest. I had more requests for workshops that I could fulfill while still working full-time. That’s when I knew it was time to take the leap and turn my mission into a full-fledged business, Ponzuric Learning Solutions. Starting this business allows me to reach a wider audience and empower educators across the states. My dream is to see students and families being supported by multiple systems in each school building.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am most proud of the resources and supports my company is able to provide to those dedicating their lives to the world of special education. For many school psychologists, they are the only person on their campus with that title, and therefore, the work can seem lonely at times. I am so thankful that I have been able to provide support and content to those looking for it through workshops, online memberships, and through my podcast. Starting my business in 2016 was not easy, but with the support of so many people in my circle, it has made each step feel less lonely for myself. Asking for help from others has made all of the difference in the world. Knowing what I needed help in, from hiring a virtual assistant to creating a website to knowing how to get myself on social media…I love the quote by Tao Te Ching who said, “when the student is ready, the teacher will appear.” I feel so thankful to have so many teachers appear right when I as in need.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite place in all of Los Angeles is the beach, and there are so many to choose from. I would have my friend spend as much time there as possible. I also love all of the museum opportunities in Los Angeles including the Natural History Museum and The Getty. And for food and drink, I would take my friend to Duke’s and have a great meal while enjoying the ocean or get a cold beverage with my food more inland at Los Toros. I also love all of the comedy club options in the los angeles area so I would definitely go there.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shoutout to Coach Kelly Mobeck. I was introduced to her and her leadership work approximately 15 years ago and my work with her and her team planted a seed about building my own business. I am so grateful for her work and all that she provides to others via her podcast and workshops. Thank you Coach Kelly!
