We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Grant and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I was a teenager I worked on an independent movie that filmed close by to my hometown in North Carolina. I didn’t know much about movies back then other than there were actors and directors. When on set, I was enthralled by something else – the crew….

They were all walking around with their walkies on, talking into their arms. Half of them looked incredibly hurried and the other half were super calm and focused. Most of them wore all black and sunglasses. They were super cool. And we got free snacks and pizza.

A few Summers later I enrolled into a filmmaking camp at what later become the college I attended – the North Carolina School of the Arts (now UNCSA).

I further dissected my interests down to Cinematography and then specifically lighting.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We’re a rental house specializing in ‘Fun Tons’, or fun-sized grip-trucks for film, music video, commercial, and digital media. Our focus has always been on the massive independent scene in Los Angeles. There are plenty of other places that cater to the larger TV Shows and Movies in town. We’ll give your music video, commercial, student film….whatever…the same level of attention. Our vehicles, gear, carts, etc, are built with community in mind – as these projects typically film on location in “real” neighborhoods or sensitive areas.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a dog person…and have a massive German Shepherd sweetheart named Moxie. I’ve struggled to find a decent place in Los Angeles to take friends where I could also bring her along. Rosie’s Dog Beach in Long Beach has been a hidden gem for me along with Monty’s Dog Beach and Bar. I can run around with her off-leash on the beach and then enjoy some food and an adult beverage right on the sand.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shoutout to Brian at Wooden Nickel Lighting. Brian has been a mentor of mine since I moved to Los Angeles, and even though some could consider him “the competition”, he has always been generous with his knowledge to anyone that asks. He is fair and reasonable and I believe his contributions to independent filmmaking will be long-lasting. He encourages and supports student filmmakers, which is a group that can be overlooked.
