We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeremy Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeremy, how do you think about risk?
There’s a saying, “No Risk, No Reward.” After successfully operating two stores in Downtown Los Angeles, it was time to take another risk. In the summer of 2021 I was presented with an incredible opportunity: Relocate my two stores into a much larger space at the Beverly Center Mall. The only caveat, we were in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. Many of my peers, and family questioned my decision. Why take such a large gamble? I could stay tucked away in the Fashion District where I had a loyal customer base and booming e-commerce operation. We held private shopping experiences and store hours operated on an appointment only basis. Moving into a mall required an increased staff that would keep my business open 7 days a week 10 hours a day. Not to mention the buildout costs, increased rent and expanded inventory. Indeed it was a big gamble but I have always bet on myself and knew this was the next step in the evolution of my brand. Beverly Center is located in the heart of America’s television and film industries and is minutes away from the affluent neighborhoods of Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood, West Hollywood and West Los Angeles. Over 4,000 registered fashion stylists routinely buy product at Beverly Center for use in TV and movies. In September of 2021 we opened our doors to this new demographic. My sales quickly accelerated and by the end of the year we had doubled our sales from the year prior. Fast forward to now and we have continued to be the go-to location for many artists, stylists, and streetwear enthusiasts. We have expanded our brand’s reach to globally connect with international travelers and tourists alike.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Conceived in 85 Born in 86, we often get asked what the name represents. The vision behind the name has driven our growth from a small e-commerce operation to a gender-neutral streetwear brand. Working in the apparel industry for ten+ years I wanted to start a business that catered to the millennial generation while also appreciating the early influences of our childhood.
Our first store opened in April of 2018 in Downtown Los Angeles and we are now located inside the Beverly Center mall. We carry designer collections from Sprayground, G-Star, Mitchell & Ness, Levi’s, X-Large, Free People and many more. We also showcase our own private label division of denim, accessories and apparel.
Nothing worth accomplishing comes easy! I worked a full-time job when starting the company, so there were countless days where I came home after work and continued on my business until the wee hours of the night. I also did pop up shops around the city to promote the brand. There is a huge amount of effort needed when setting up mobile shopping experiences. I invested all profits back into the business for the first 3 years. This allowed me to avoid debt and build up our inventory and infrastructure.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A trip to the beach is a must do. Manhattan Beach is the perfect spot to lay out and enjoy some sun. Afterwards we would hit up Manhattan Beach Creamery for fresh hand crafted ice cream. My favorite flavor is cookies and cream! For dinner I’d take them to Honor Bar in Beverly Hills for my favorite chicken sandwich in the city!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

I’d like to shout out my mom! I grew up in a one-parent household and my mom worked extra hard to provide a comfortable living space for the both of us as well as teaching me sky’s the limit! She sacrificed so much and supported me in all of my endeavors both personal and business. From helping me set up my first pop up when I was just getting started to inviting co-workers to come shop she has been invested in my continued success. I’d also like to shout out my 8586 FAMILY! The retail squad at our Beverly Center store keeps us connected to our customers everyday.
