Meet Jess Iturzaeta | Creator of Simply Jess Skincare & Esthetician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jess Iturzaeta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jess, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Back when I started Simply Jess Skincare, I was really mindful of the ingredients I was putting on my skin due to health issues in my family. I wanted to keep it clean but didn’t love the options in the beauty/skincare product space. After working for other skincare brands for so many years I wanted to put my time and energy into creating something I truly believed in. I also wanted to be in charge of my own time as a new mom and have power to create my schedule. I felt compelled to start my own brand and use my background as an esthetician and trainer to help clients change their skin.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Simply Jess Skincare was created to address the needs of the clients I have been seeing in the treatment rooms for years. Their concerns and skin goals have paved the way for each and every product I have created. Using a simple regimen with sophisticated ingredients, we are able to help busy women achieve results they crave without worrying about harmful chemicals. The personalized attention and support we can provide makes us unique in this industry.
I am most proud of how effective the products are. I have high standards for what skincare products need to accomplish and the fact we can see such amazing results and keep the line all natural is what makes me most excited.
Knowing skin and skincare was the easy part, learning the rest of what it takes to run a business has been more of a learning process. Thankfully I am a lifelong learner and don’t mind trying new things out until something works!
I have really learned not to let the fear of failing stop me. When I first started with social media it was really intimating. I felt really self conscious on video and as a Gen-Xer I did not grow up taking selfies. The biggest lesson there was to remember it wasn’t about me but about the client that I was serving. These days so many of my clients love my educational videos and it has helped answer questions about their skin. The more you jump in to something in one area that scares you, the more confidence you have to try other things. Not doing anything is the biggest failure I can have.
Helping women gain confidence through my skincare line has been the most rewarding part for me. Our brand meets our clients where they are whether a beginner to skincare or if they are self care queens, we have a solution.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Even though I am from Orange County, I have spent a lot of time in LA. I would probably start with brunch downtown at one of my favorite spots Bottega Louie and then check out a few museums. I love the Natural History Museum and LACMA. It might be fun to try the hike to the Hollywood sign which I have never done myself! As a mom who gets tired at night, exploring the city in the day is more my speed.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Creating a brand with the support of my husband has been part of why this experience has been so enjoyable. Knowing my strengths and asking for help on the parts of the business that challenge me has been key.
