Meet Jess Purple | Photographer + Videographer // Matt + Jess

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jess Purple and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jess, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the thing that drives the success of our brand is our constant evolution. We are constantly seeking inspiration – from people, places, color palettes, nature – and pushing ourselves to grow as artists. Our goal with each wedding or shoot is to make that one our best one yet. I think not allowing ourselves to stay static or our style to plateau has been a really important factor in our trajectory.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Most of my clients come to me with serious trepidation being in front of the camera. As someone who hates being in front of the camera (and thrives being behind it), I completely relate. But having my couples and clients walk away from our shoots feeling confident and beautiful and saying they actually had fun and love the way they were captured – that’s what makes me the most proud. I absolutely love making people fall in love with themselves.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We live in Ojai – an intimate, artsy community about an hour outside of LA. Most of our friends visit us here, and there’s so many great places to eat, drink, hike and be in nature.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband and business partner Matt deserves some recognition. He has been my biggest cheerleader in my career. He encouraged me to go full-time working for myself years ago, and it was the best thing I’ve ever done. Now we’ve been shooting together for the last 8 years and haven’t looked back!
