We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesse Rivera and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jesse, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor to my success is the result of one thing – building relationships.
Real estate, whether it’s investing, finance or working with buyers and sellers, is a relationship business. In my opinion, there is no better path to success than taking a deep interest in the people you meet, and finding ways that you can help them succeed in their personal and professional lives.
But the key is not to find out how the people you meet can help you, the key is to take a genuine interest in their lives and their business, and find out way you help them thrive. Whether it’s introducing them to other professionals that can help them, or just getting to know them on a personal level so that I can refer them later.
And it’s easy for me, because I am by nature a very curious person. Some may say that I ask too many questions, and may ask questions that are too personal, and that may be true, but it never seems like an inquisition. The people I talk to can see that I have a real interest in getting to know and help them.
And most times, these new relationships create a daisy chain of new introductions and new relationships. Just like the old saying, “I know a guy that knows a guy,” my new friends will introduce me to new prospects, vendors, and new contractors. And there is nothing better than a warm introduction to jump start a new relationship.
When new agents ask me how to succeed in real estate, my number question to them is, “who have you talked to today?” Having a plan to talk to a specific number of people each week is an easy, and free path to success, no matter what business you’re in.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business revolves around education. Getting a mortgage or buying a home can be like diving into the deep end of the pool, and so I strive to make the process as understandable and approachable as possible. I believe that if my borrowers know what they are getting into, how the process works and why we need to accomplish each step, they will be more confident in their purchase and we can eliminate much of the dreaded “buyer’s remorse.” Only through education and communication can I help make this enormous purchase as painless as possible.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in Long Beach and surrounding areas, if my guest was coming for a visit: Bike ride along the coast,
Shopping on 2nd st, followed by drinks and dinner at Michaels on 2nd.
Picnic with a bottle of wine at Signal Hill park at sunset.
Drinks at the Maya Hotel, great view of the Queen Mary and Long Beach skyline.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A shoutout to the Long Beach Rotary Club. Not only is it a great organization that has a goal to make our community better, but I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the most generous, smart and successful people I could ever hope to meet. They have the heart the size of Texas, and I’ve learned so much about life and philanthropy, my life is the better for it.
If you have the chance to join your local Rotary, or any other service club like it, I highly encourage you to do so.
