We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesse Vazquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jesse, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
It does take a while to find your routine but definitely does pay off in the end when you find it. Alot of sleepless nights is probably inevitable but if you have a system, it’ll become easier and easier. Organization and consistency are two actions that I follow. Having a calendar is a great way to have an organized schedule for bookings. Having a consistent workflow can build trust with clients. I enjoy my work life balance. Having organization and consistency really gives me time and energy to balance my social life with work life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It is definitely not easy. It will take time to get where you want to be but as long as you keep consistent with work and market yourself well, you’ll be okay. Most importantly, BE PATIENT! As mentioned earlier, marketing yourself well can go a long way. Whether it is over social media or in-person, you need a way to build a relationship with your audience. I have made great clients through in person interactions. And the best way to promote yourself are business cards.
Simple information like your social media, phone number, email address, and services you provide should be enough for a business card. You never know who you’ll run it and it’ll make your business more professional.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Zion National Park. I love hiking and so do many of my friends. She would wake me up as early as 5 in the morning and prep our lunches. Giving me already two wake-up calls, I finally get out of bed. We leave by 6:30 AM and it will take an hour drive in to reach the entrance of the park. By 7:35 AM we are parked in the park. We venture for a 6-mile hike and have a picnic at 12:30 PM. Nothing but a good turkey sandwich to refuel on energy. We enjoy a nice view from Angel’s Landing.
I’ve met some adventurous people on our hikes. The most daring are climbers and I understand the excitement they have for climbing. It inspires me greatly to see someone that passionate about what they love.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I was a baby, I have the fondest memory with my mom. I was about a year old, and she was bathing me. I remember feeling safe and loved. Her gentleness made me feel like I was her world, at the palm of her hands. I love this memory. So much that this is what started my creative journey as a photographer. My partner Gabby has always been my biggest support when doing the impossible. She reminds me why I love the work I do and to always take it one step at a time.
My inspiration will have to be photographer Fan Ho. His art style is heavily inspired by the Bauhaus movement. Using geometric shapes and heavy contrast, his work evokes a “decisive moment” in a photo. A practice that I considered a purist approach to photography.
