We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Kewei Lin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica Kewei, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I felt drawn to the creative field from a very young age. From the earliest memories of my childhood, I was enchanted by the world of art and design, finding myself mesmerized by the way colors and shapes could tell a story or convey emotions. I am also really thankful for the Campus Dining project that I did, which helped me to fluidly combine my visual design background and the product/service design aspect together for a truly engaging and successful project. This award-winning project solidified my desire to delve deeper into the entirety of the user experience design, pushing me to explore new horizons in design with enthusiasm.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I currently work as a contract UX designer at a leading gaming company, a role I take great pride in. My contributions encompass the development of requirements, wireframes, and prototypes supporting not only web interfaces but also in-game experiences. My work stands out due to its interdisciplinary foundation; my unique perspective on visuals and design principles enables me to align and integrate user experiences seamlessly across various platforms. Reflecting on my progress, I take immense pride in how I continuously leverage my past projects as learning opportunities. While I am working on projects, I always reflect on myself and draw upon my previous experiences, identifying both strengths to build upon and areas for improvement. This practice of self-reflection and growth has been pivotal in my growth, enabling me to deliver consistently innovative and impactful designs.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to Bestia, an Italian gem nestled in the Art District, which is my all-time favorite restaurant in LA that I always take my friends to. Its blend of stunning spatial design, exceptional food, and an electrifying atmosphere makes it an amazing LA dining destination that I always return to, and I’m confident it will leave an indelible mark on their visit. Definitely recommend their Roasted Marrow Bone!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a shoutout to my current team at work, especially the design team! I love our dynamic and the way we bring diverse perspectives to projects while collaborating seamlessly. Being a part of this team has been an incredibly rewarding journey, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I would also extend a heartfelt shoutout to my mentors and the ones who have offered me so much valuable support along the way. I remember all those enlightening conversations vividly, as each was instrumental in shaping me into who I am today. This is precisely the reason why I’m eager to give back to the community by mentoring others, helping them learn more about the UX field in the industry, and figuring out their career paths.
