We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica M and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’m glad you asked that question. My thought process behind my brand was to have more POC in the skin care industry that creates cultivated science-based skin care for melanated skin. I believe that there’s no other way to better cater to your needs than actually using items that we’ve designed with you in mind. There’s a special place I hold for making sure our needs get fulfilled when we’re searching for skincare that is created naturally and produces excellent results without chemically made large factory-made products that are solely made for Monterey gain and not meeting the needs of their consumers or taking the time make products with others in mind during their formulating process.

We believe in creating products from scratch based on what we have learned from our own experiences with our skin. We also believe in creating products based on what works best for us. We do not test anything on animals, nor do we use animal byproducts because we want to ensure everything is safe, natural, and effective for all melanated skin types.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Rawheka is a company that provides Science-based skincare products to everyday women. We are so excited to be able to offer great products that we know you’ll love too!

We started out of necessity: in our own lives, we were looking for an easy way to do something that seemed complicated (and expensive). We realized that many people were having the same problem, and decided to found Rawheka so we could provide an affordable solution.

We’ve been around for 6 years and have made a lot of mistakes along the way—but we think they’ve made us stronger as a company. We’re proud of our progress over the years, but Even more proud of the satisfaction we’ve given our customers.

What makes us different from everyone is we create our products from the heart in small batches with holistic ingredients with you and your family in mind!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d take my best friend to Miami, a 3-hour drive from. Me. But who doesn’t like a mini road trip? I’d show them some fun, attractive, exciting people, places, or things in town.

First off, we’d have to go to Wynwood—it’s one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city! There are so many great restaurants there (I love Tinto), and it’s got some of the best nightlife spots too. If you’re looking for a really cool place to eat, check out Señor Frogs. It’s a Mexican place with live music and dancing that’s open until 5am on weekends!

After dinner, we’d go dancing at Club NKLA—it’s one of my favorite clubs in all of South Beach. It has an urban vibe that makes it feel like you’re in New York City instead of Miami Beach.

In the morning we’d go for brunch at The Broken Shaker. It has a beautiful outdoor patio with gorgeous plants and flowers everywhere—it feels like your own personal oasis right in the heart of South Beach. Then after brunch we could walk around Collins Avenue shopping or just hang out by the beach while People-watching!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a massive shout-out to my family for helping me and believing in my vision during my entrepreneurial journey; my supporters, I mean, none of this would be possible without the support from the gang #hekagang! I love them so so much!
