We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Samson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was never truly my plan. I was always focused on working in real estate until 1 night I had an idea I could not shake. My midnight experience drove my curiosity about menstrual product waste: I dove deep into the internet and was shocked by the amount of waste and carelessness around single use disposable tampon applicators. With every shocking statistic I learned, I realized that we can do better than this, and decided to take matters into my own hands. Eventually the Every Cycle reusable tampon applicator was born, after months of research and prototyping, sourcing manufacturing and finally FDA approval. After what felt like forever, with lots of bumps in the road, I finally launched my company Every Cycle. The main thought process behind it is that women can and will be able to do better now that this and other more sustainable products are available. Every Cycle is committed to providing women with sustainable products related to and surrounding their periods.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Getting where I am today with a launched company was a very tedious road. I heard so many no’s along the way and felt like giving up many times but I have such a strong belief in my product and the good it can do for women and the menstrual product industry I somehow kept the flame burning and pushed through each obstacle along the way. I have learned that as an entrepreneur you need to have tenacity, strength and a lot of determination because it is extremely easy to lose hope along the way.

Every Cycle is made for women, by women. Every Cycle is committed to providing women with sustainable products related to and surrounding their periods. Even more than creating products that help both the environment and women, Every Cycle is grounded in community. When you have your period, you’re never alone. Women around the world are menstruating with you, every day, every month. Instead of promoting the negative rhetoric surrounding periods, we want to redefine periods and connect women and their stories – all geared towards engagement and empowerment. Every Cycle brings women together in solidarity because periods are unifying by nature. Every Cycle is here to help be a part of shifting the paradigm around periods and to open the door for conversations concerning stigmas.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
OMG you’re coming to LA I am so excited! Here are the plans:

Friday night dinner at my place so we can catch up and you can relax after your travels. We will chat all night and enjoy delicious home cooked meal because we all know that is the best!

Saturday for brunch we are going to Malibu Farms to enjoy the view and a nice long brunch. Hopefully the weather will be nice and hot and we can go to the beach afterwards.

Saturday night we are going to Elephante for dinner and drinks.

Sunday we will walk around Abbot Kinney and along the beach path.

Nothing better than a weekend with my best friend, the beach and great weather.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would not be where I am today without the help of an amazing facebook group and community of fearless women called Women Founders Community. I countlessly posted and continue to post questions and always am answered with a wealth of knowledge and experiences from other business women. This community has been such a life saver and source of encouragement throughout my journey. I would also be remiss if I did not mention a very special man, Vern, who has since retired but from the inception of my idea all the way throughout was nothing but encouraging. He owned a manufacturing company and continuously helped me, answered questions and connected me with many people in the industry. Unbeknown to him he began to feel like my work Grandpa! I do not think I would have launched without his help, experience and encouragement.
