We had the good fortune of connecting with jessica valencia and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi jessica, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
not associating myself with anybody who is into negative things in life such as drugs or gangs….. trying it’s not easy to associate myself in all aspects with people who align with my values and morals. this applies to business, friends, associates, acquaintances, and personal relationships.

I am only human it’s difficult to read people most times, but the wrong choice in who you keep near you can ruin or destroy everything you’ve obtained or built… Again this applies to not just intimate relationships or friends…it’s a mechanism towards business and anyone you associate yourself with…

I have a flaw of not moving on quick enough because people are fluid… water.. osmosis we absorb traits of others around us like osmosis …your around them and you become them… so if people change as they will and are supposed to you have to move away from them…. and do it quick enough that you move to the side or in front of them because if it’s too late you’ll end up being forced to move behind them and have to pick up the pace to get back….
Everyone grows
grow down or grow up we don’t always grow at the same pace…

Slow feet don’t eat..keep it moving… or get stuck

People are for reasons seasons that saying …. but i always want anyone around to grow with me so if things change I don’t always let go… super hard for me bc I see the best in people… at their worst …

Anyone who is around you should be helping you not hurting you BUT again people change and you have to align with your values and morals and it’s very painful…. if you’ve known someone in business any aspect and have to let go..

again this applies even to a doctor you’ve been seeing ten years and there doing unethical things you disagree with maybe animal testing as an analogy..

So that’s what has helped me success but I’m still acclimating to the ebbs and flows..

Birds of a feather flock together I like to free moving fast flying no time to even flock,,,you travel enough you see so much you realize how different and rare you are to the world unique…

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Not everyone will understand you or your story and you don’t need to waste time or energy to convince or sell them- just be true to yourself…

Challenges were the deepest and darkest of sadly having to keep my personal life private to those personal to me

Public is public but off set in off the grid i don’t want to or should have to act in real life what you see is what you get and i’ve struggled with the image and perception individuals have of me doesn’t match the reflection of the true me which makes them perplexed- i’m a very genuine person and it’s hard to find anyone real-

There’s a Keith Sweat video called Twisted – that video explains the analogy of who is close to you… in some interviews he stated it was about his wife the closest to him robbed him- it’s very hard to have anyone with good intentions let alone decent intentions you don’t know where anyone is coming from… business wise…and you need your team…

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Hollywood obviously ..

It’s about them so I would focus on what they like if that’s museums, or mansions, and take it day by day…because it’s too much pressure if I pulled an itinerary and they may be tired or jet lagged….just as flexible as possible…they may want to just stay at the pool…

plus not to detour but we have call sheets on set..they have the timing minute by minute down… it’s always behind somehow so you have to be flexible.. people shoot late then wake up late… I get my period, cramps we know no one likes an itinerary on their period…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
my amazing manager mike at cyclence media management

he is an incredible human being who is humble kind supportive and non judge mental. He sincerely cares about the growth of each of his artists… … whoever you are he sees you as YOU first before your entertainment ID “ aka a model or actress or comedian…each person as a person… he is one of a kind as a manager… He wants you to be yourself the best version of yourself and not minimize your talents… and also he isn’t a dictator it’s a democracy with him..each artist has a voice and I LOVE and respect him for that…He makes sure to mediate and find a happy median, middle ground for any issues and also for your image… he doesn’t make a square peg fit into a round whole….. network’s conglomerate… pecking order of your image….. I can’t say that for others who can make you feel like you need them but let’s be real they need you.. the managers or agents who verbatim will say “.. there’s so many like you… there’s so many who want your spot or would do this ….” no there is ONLY one you and whoever you work with should feel that way end of story WHY would you want anyone to say that if they were a boyfriend or girlfriend or friend to say you could be replaced… Would you let your friends or loved ones or a BOSS regular 9-5….anyone say that …so why just bc entertainemnt? I get the numbers of so many want but to say that or use it a power chip..NO
and they are getting paid off you.. so anyone with no dignity or respect towards your gift and skill in entertainment is a glorified pimp getting paid off you and belittling you..
ITS SO a hard to find a manager or agent who is t trying to change you, sell you, degrade you, belittle you… people trying to their gift and they have to succumb to these atrocious people who are not MIKE.. I’m very lucky I have him…..
Back to mike… he is an ANGEL and not a Fidel Castrol Kim Ju Ung my way or the highway type of person just an analogy..
SO SHOUTOUT TO HIM love you mike for being you keeping it real …bow down to the throne or step up…everyone bows down bc they can’t step up

MIKE MIKE MIKE MIKE a all the time and thought to image and interviews and media you’ve done, websites, after hours work, submissions, phone calls, talks, motivation… never negative always kind but not hiding or fake…

that’s all hard work, money, and time paid from your heart…I’m pretty sure he will be international or owning his own studios…so look for that coming from him.. he also doesn’t see race,color,shape,size…. he never will say to lose weight, or drop an accent, or dye your hair….. but we do sessions on constructive and growth..so he has a gift to let you be you, while booking and making money…
SÚPER pro development any stage of actors or artist and again any race… it’s even harder for minorities and he is a proud BLACK owned company in Beverly Hills…. He came from a small town that’s extremely ignorant if not racist he didn’t come from Hollywood and he is humble, ethical,honest… and again BLACK that’s rare let’s keep it real… I’m not making it about color this is him as a human, but this is Hollywood and that speaks for itself….
he is my Jansport nap sack on my back… so I carry him with me when I am doing self tapes, or when I’m on set….. I reference all his kind words… and motivation, and his emails with his thoughts… In fact I dropped weight and he was the first like are you eating are you ok? I am… but any other agent or manager would of been like great job you lost weight that’s great you look more like your “ TYPE”
We all know we get boxed in a type ….. submission breakdown .. white, black etc i Hope one day they change it because it’s really hard if you are mixed, or don’t look like the “ type” …. I always had wigs for type etc and extra wardrobe makeup etc with that pressure it’s nice the person behind the submission wants to book it and is rooting for you… Your not a paycheck to them…your a person..

And thank you for the wardrobe photo shoots, he goes above and beyond…. all the pictures in Dropbox of ideas and thoughts he is above and beyond
BUT THE WHOLE team at CYLENCE who does submissions…
mike is a man who if your pregnant he’ll change the plan and work with you…not DROP you you don’t hear that…he set up a whole for everyone to self tape and film in like that’s unheard of …. so all of us can win and be happy … happiness to artists is storytelling not the check… I SELL my emotions I paint a picture I tell a story..beginning middle and end.. and you feel something …anger. Sad, funny, happy…acting is feeling tong the message and the story received… I’m the vessel the vechicle the voice for the words on the paper… I make the story not on the script or the paper i make the story behind the scenes that no one sees or knows the background..My characters I give them nicknames, theme songs…..
And MIKE loves that 💜 I was a little shy to tell him I could rap and I had record deals… and he was like “do you know how many musical productions are out there Christmas movies and Disney I need to know that…” he accepts i guess all parts of you…. most people just connect with one part of you not all.. he called me a bombshell one time and I said fall back I’ve been through 9_11 and he was like that’s so you any other woman would be like “ wow thanks” I was probably a Librarian in another life… the way I don’t like attention but I’m in an industry about attention it’s a conflict, a fight a battle….

All the amazing unions dedicated to keeping artists safe Sag Aftra… for actors of course DGA and WGA… I’m a writer ……

.. SAG aftra is amazing to keep happy,healthy sets.. i have a modeling background their is STILL no union for modeling… coming from modeling projects that had no union … modeling your face is on how many covers, how many projects … no residuals… NO ownership of intellectual property rights…and your image is just out there. In modeling ….. no protection where and how it’s utilized
unlike SAG Aftra for acting … and other tiers they have created to cover all of us such as social media they really protect and care about their artist.. SO to SAG AFTRA they deserve so much credit…for what they do…not even talking about residuals…. every single person on set contributes to the beautiful finished story you see….Craft services, security people who are not the actors …these people contributing to the filming sequences of television and film…do not get enough credit…the teachers for the children on set… the sets that dónate FOOD to food banks…. we have so much food on set, we always have snacks, and meals and I’m so grateful for that and I hope they get the thank you they deserve… I hope security and craft gets the regonization and makeup and hair and even the medical on set…medic…. so many behind the scenes…

i hope more sets donate food to food banks and shelters because there is always sealed food or snacks always there … full course meals…

everyone on sets who is profesional we all appreciate you and they don’t always say this but acting coaches on set and therapists mainstream actors don’t admit that ….. or it’s a rider in the contract…. but that’s a HUGE HUGE HUGE shoutout…if your screaming and crying for ten takes in a row… having food on set so your blood sugar is stable and your coach and team is worth a lot over press and PR everyone’s sees….
