We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessy Chaheme and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessy, what do you attribute your success to?
The success of my brand is because parents love that their kids get to do art in their own style. They get to pick the paint colors they like . They get to do one of most popular type of art, sparkle art, which they get to create on a canvas and use different types, of sparkles, fairy dust, gems and clear glue. They use their imagination when they do that.
Children’s little faces are amazed that they just get create! It’s magical and they are mesmerized !
Because often times , much of children’s art has to be something that is a pattern or is already pre-cut for them or it’s often times too many coloring sheets. For me, that doesn’t leave room so that kids can create.
It stifles their creativity , and that’s when children can get used to others either drawing it for them , or at times telling them “don’t use that paint,” or “don’t use that color” etc..
Children need to just be given the materials and they are very capable of using their own ideas.
Because at our studio we allow them to explore discover and imagine, and the kids love it ! Parents love it !
Too often I see school children that are not as able to create or given the time to do much art, and it saddens me when I have visited some elementary schools where you don’t see one drip of paint, or even chalk. I think that’s been a huge part of our success, that we are saying children need this for healthy & creative development.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
For years I had been looking for an art studio, but the ones on the West Side, including Santa Monica, were very expensive. I was in a public school that I had worked for many years, even though the parents and kids loved my work, the directors didn’t value my work, and said it was too messy. But I continued doing hands-on art with the kids, allowing them to use their creativity. I believed in what I know is important for children. Then the pandemic hit, and I thought about how I had been in need of a change for years. Since my work wasn’t recognized much, but I had been very involved in my local community, I was offered an art studio by a member of the community. First I told her I wasn’t sure I could do that, as I had never had a small business. She told me we will support you with helping to get permits, with what you need. She believed I could do it, and I took that risk. We opened during the pandemic in March 2021, and I am very grateful and humbled and happy that parents love my work. When I see kids create and they are so in the moment, they tell me they really liked to doing art with me, and that makes me happy.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would love to host them at our Magical Atelier studio! We also do wine-tastings (Sip n Paints!), and can host private parties at our studio. We also are happy to have folks bring food to our studio, if you’d like to use our studio as a private party hosting location.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
To anyone who has ever helped me in my journey to my studio! My family, friends, and community members who support my vision.
