We had the good fortune of connecting with Jesus Diaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jesus, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I believe the only time you should give up on something is when you are no longer at peace, when something is no longer making you happy, when the negatives outweigh the positives. Sometimes the only way to keep going is to let go.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been a creative person, I drew, painted and was heavy into music as a kid. At one point after high school I lost focus on my creative side. When that spark to be creative again returned, I began taking & editing photos on my phone and regained the same feeling I got when I would paint or draw. After sharing some photos on instagram, family and friends encouraged me to take it more serious. I finally got a real camera In 2020 and started my journey as a photographer & visual artist. Thanks to my earlier passion with painting and drawing, It allowed me to view my photography in the same way I do paintings and challenged me to bring that feeling and look into my photos. Photography has been a blessing that brought good people, opportunities, a sense of purpose & ability to slow down, observe and appreciate life in a new light.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m not in LA too often but when I am I always hit a few spots. Venice is always a go to for some brews and the vibe. I like eating at Roscoe’s when possible. I also like visiting friends that stay in LA and get some drinks at The Liberties in downtown LA. I plan to get to know the city more in the near future.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost I thank God for guiding me towards a creative path and giving me the gift and talent to create. Secondly I thank Family , Friends and my Community for supporting my craft and pushing me to take photography more serious when I first started this Journey as a Photographer. The city I’m from is also a big inspiration, it’s full of talent from all walks of life. It’s been an honor working with other local artist, clothing brands, businesses & creatives in my hometown, I am grateful for the ability to contribute towards the growth and future of my hometown in a positive way.
