We had the good fortune of connecting with Jeta Stephens AKA “My Banker Jets” and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jeta, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Baybeeee. I’ve been playing a game of leap (of faith) frog since I quit my job as a banker two years ago. It started with handing in my resignation without having another job lined up. Then months later, relocating to California from Pennsylvania, still with no job prospects in sight. It’s been a continuum of risk-taking ever since! With each leap, I’ve been shocked by, not only my ability to land on solid ground, but my ability to fly. Every day I see the immeasurable benefits of partnering with God on one’s journey to success.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a finance storyteller, which means I use various art forms to educate about finances. That includes screenwriting, YouTube/Instagram educational videos, music, photography. Through it all, I’m most proud that I’ve stepped into the gumption to create. I usually like to mind my business and slide under the radar, but I’m coming out of my cozy cocoon more and more. When you feel the tug in your spirit, you just gotta do it. And much like my leaps of faith, I’m constantly surprised at how my cup runneth over with talent and creativity haha. I’m always like, ‘What?? I know how to do that, too?!? Who knew??’ Being open and discovering your own hidden treasures really builds you as an individual. I’m excited to share each enclave of my art. And hopefully that will help people, especially Black people, develop renewed, healthy relationships with money.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Shop holistic at Nappily Naturals in Leimert Park. “Bike ride” in Venice Beach. Eat steamed buns in Little Tokyo. Drink a flaming margarita at El Compadre. “People watch” in West Hollywood ;-). Spend time in one of the many amazing museums – Hammer, MOCA, The Broad, there are so many. Watch a movie at The New Beverly Cinema. Catch the vibe and eat at Issa Rae’s Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen. I also love to wander about spontaneously.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
OMG, my family! They hold me DOWN! I’m on the phone with them every five minutes with a different LA story. When COVID hit, they immediately had groceries delivered to my door, without me ever asking. Granny always fills me with her hilarious wisdom (she makes occasional appearances in my videos). I could go on forever. They just keep me centered overall. I’m very blessed.
