We had the good fortune of connecting with Jiawei Fu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jiawei, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
In our world, there exist numerous ambiguous boundaries and undefined realms, often challenging to articulate or substantiate. These elusive boundaries or gray areas can manifest as personal sentiments, conceptual definitions, or even historical contexts. Personally, I have found solace in the realm of painting, as it serves as a conduit for me to elucidate these enigmatic aspects within my own life and the world around me. Art, as a medium, offers unrestricted freedom in interpretation, inviting individuals to assign their unique meanings to it.

My aspiration is for viewers to approach my creations with open minds, recognizing that diverse interpretations bestow significance upon my works. This multiplicity of meanings not only mirrors the distinctiveness of each observer but also reflects facets of my own identity. My ultimate ambition is to pursue a career in the arts, with the intention of unraveling and exposing these nebulous boundaries to society at large.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The path isn’t an easy one, and my journey of improvement continues each day. For artists and designers, finding inspiration is an ever-important fuel to keep progressing in their creative endeavors. However, inspiration often hides in the shadows, requiring time and effort to uncover. During this quest, the critical voices of judgment often make their presence felt. Nevertheless, my suggestion is to embrace all these voices with an open heart, for they will eventually metamorphose into the wellspring of your next creative series.

My artistic creations are fundamentally narratives infused with emotions. I aspire for viewers to perceive my work as a mirror, a canvas upon which they can discover their own stories and interpretations. In essence, each painting represents a reflection of their lives, a shared human experience. It’s my desire for everyone to realize they are not alone in their emotions and that they have every right to feel and connect with something profound.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Residing in Los Angeles, my approach to hosting friends involves first immersing them in the essential tourist destinations and iconic landmarks to ensure they savor the full experience. Afterward, I delight in introducing them to the more hidden gems of the city – the serene beaches, charming corner restaurants, bustling Sunday flea markets, and eclectic local stores brimming with unique goods.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are many individuals I would like to express my gratitude to. Firstly, my family, whose unwavering support has been a constant pillar throughout my career. I’m also immensely thankful for my friends who have stood by me, providing their support consistently. I must extend special appreciation to my affiliated galleries, with a special mention to Artio Gallery from Canada. Their relentless efforts have consistently propelled me to showcase my work to the world.
