We had the good fortune of connecting with Jihad Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jihad, how do you think about risk?
I feel like taking risk is very important in life because without taking the risk you will never find out if you have a chance at what you would like to pursue. Every day I take risk for my business because without taking the risk I would probably be working for someone else and putting my dreams to the side. When I was 19 I took one of my biggest risk and invested into starting my own clothing brand not knowing if people would support me or not. Then when I was 23 I took another big risk by putting all money in that I saved into getting my own store. Everyday is a new day to take a risk towards your dreams.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m proud of the growth in my business, I started it by myself with money I saved up from working since I was 16. I’m excited to see it expand to all of the world because I know with my dedication and team behind me we will get there. I got to the place I am with my business by hustling everyday and promoting my business every where I go. It’s never easy creating your own business from the bottom with no hand outs I am just thankful for all the support and help I had through out the years. I overcame it by focusing on the version and hunger when I started the brand/business. Some lessons I learned were that you have to be willing the network and get out your comfort zone to find like minded people that can help you take your business to the next level and to always strive to be better use everyday to do something. I think one thing I want people to know about me and my business is it’s Boomin Season EVERY season.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Riverside is my city I was born and raised here in the neighborhood called Casa Blanca many know of it by seeing it on the news as being this horrible neighborhood but it’s my home and history. I strived hard to get out of it but I hope one day I can buy it back to help my community, it has to start somewhere. So with that being said would take them back to my roots and show them my family that still resides there. There’s a burger place in Casa Blanca called Johnny’s Burgers and it has the best burgers. My shop is across town so they can see the store and merchandise.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my mom and dad for giving birth to a boss. My mom raised me as a single mother due to my dad being incarcerated she showed me to never give up no matter how hard life gets and to always work for what you want. Also my God dad for being a mentor and showing me it is possible. Everyday I strive to keep going for my kids and little brothers.
