We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jill, what do you want your legacy to be?
I want my legacy to be that I loved the Lord and my family with my whole heart and everything I put my heart to I gave my best. I hope people remember my business as one that just strove to help as many people as I could. I want my legacy to be that I was one that loved and guided with my business as the vessel- it’s not about the money for me and I hope that comes across in everything I do. Many moms struggle through the early years of motherhood and I was there too at one time as a young mom. I want to be there to love, mentor, and guide mothers and people through their journey and be a loving and comforting presence. I hope I have the legacy that I was giving and gracious in my business endeavors and truly helped people with my products.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
With the ingredients that are used in my products, there are many variations and trial and errors that go into each recipe. I make all of the products from my kitchen so it’s been a learning curve making everything by hand and the balance that goes into incorporating making products into a full life. I have learned so much not just about the herbs and miraculous ingredients that go into the products but also myself and running a business alongside pouring into my family, my faith, and my journey with natural living. I have been blessed to be able to be a backyard beekeeper and start making my own sourdough and growing foods in my backyard. I view my business not as separate from my personal life, but as an extension of my mini homemaking and homesteading lifestyle. I love that this business comes from my heart and is truly a labor of love that aligns with my journey as a mother and grandmother.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For outdoor adventures I would recommend exploring the tide pools at Crystal Cove, hiking in El Morro Canyon, and taking a trip to the beautiful Catalina Island to fish and explore. Walking Huntington Beach Pier and watching the surfers in the morning is so peaceful and a must.
Our favorite coffee shop is Sur Coffee in downtown Huntington Beach and our favorite breakfast spot is Sessions the next street over.
My new favorite restaurant is Calico Fish House in Sunset Beach. It’s new and so fresh and delicious.
Nontoxic shopping at Fill Up Buttercup for home, skin, bath, and cleaning essentials and to find my products and grocery shopping at Mothers Market for high quality local and organic finds.
I would recommend practitioners Dr. Mahnoush Esmaili for alternative health services and acupunctural treatments and Dr. Billy Demoss for chiropractic and holistic care.
Most of all, if someone is coming into town to enjoy Southern California, my biggest recommendation would be to take your shoes off and spend as much time with your feet touching the ocean and the sand and just slow down to soak up the sun and enjoy the beautiful beach and we are blessed with.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Jamie Lake who owns Fill Up Buttercup in Costa Mesa and her staff. She knew me before I started Honeybee Hippie and told me she would love to try a product I made. She then encouraged me to start making more and said she would take a chance on me and carry it in her store. That opportunity is what started my business and propelled me into creating what I have now. I am thankful for this shop that was so caring to want to support my little idea and truly helped me to blossom into something beautiful. The girls at Fill Up Buttercup always told me I was onto something, encouraged me when I was down about the product recipes I was trying to work on, and told me I could do it and that they believed it was going to turn into something amazing- and they were right.
