Meet John Bach | Executive Chef and Owner of Seoul Food KBBQ Catering

We had the good fortune of connecting with John Bach and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, what role has risk played in your life or career?
My entire young adult life was a literal gamble with more losses than wins, so when it came to starting Seoul Food KBBQ, I was very, very calculated with the type of risks I took.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Seoul Food KBBQ Catering began as a small dinner party service during Covid with little intention of becoming a full-service event and catering business. We had a “say yes to everything” approach that allowed us to move in a direction solely based on client requests. We invested in equipment and began offering certain services only after we learned the most common needs (e.g., event-specific buffet catering, on-site grilling, bartending, or rentals like patio heaters and stemware).
In other words, we only expanded and invested when we already had the business. This allowed us to take almost zero risk while growing the business,

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would start with the tourist spots like Santa Monica Pier, Hollywood and Highland, and pictures at the Hollywood sign at Lake Hollywood. Then work our way up to historic spots like Griffith Observatory, Getty Villa, and Huntington Library. And we would end the day with a stop in Koreatown for some KBBQ, of course.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife, Nataliia Bach. I keep telling her I couldn’t have even thought about starting this business if it weren’t for her. Even though we were only dating when I started this business, she has been my right arm and biggest supporter.
