Meet John Mueller | Show Producer and Entertainer

We had the good fortune of connecting with John Mueller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think that would be compatibility and professionalism. By compatibility I mean easy to work with and good interfacing with clients. It’s vitally important what kind of impression you leave with someone that has hired you for services especially when meeting them the first time.. Are you prompt, courteous and a pleasure to be around? These three things alone will make people want to work with you again in the future. You can’t rely on your talent alone, you can have a great show or service but if you’re not fun to work with and don’t exhibit professional behavior, who’s going to want work with you again? Word of mouth and referrals have been great for me and my show.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Playing and singing music makes me feel alive. Performing at theatres and concert halls all across the U.S. is both exciting and very rewarding. I’m most happy when people either tell me after a show or through an email about how much joy they experienced from our show. That’s what its all about for me, bringing the joy. I think I got to where I am today by making sure I had an exceptional quality show to offer venues. There’s the saying, “be so good at what you do that they can’t ignore you.” It’s very true, even if you don’t have connections initially (which I didn’t) eventually if you have a good product or service the marketplace cannot ignore it. I started out cold calling venues to hire the show which was hard and time consuming with little result. Eventually word of mouth spread about my show and venues and agencies took note and the phone started to ring. It wasn’t easy and it took some time for this to occur but it did and I’ve never looked back. I’ve learned along the way that your reputation is critical in this business. You must be cordial and professional to clients, even if they are not or for some reason they are inept. You can always walk away when done saying, “I did my best even though the conditions were poor. I did my part.” I’m most proud of a four night booking we had at the Verizon center in Philadelphia. It was our symphony presentation of the show and we had the Grammy winning Peter Nero conducting the orchestra behind us. It was thrilling! I would like the world to know that we have been keeping the memory and music alive of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper for over 20 years and are the only show endorsed by the Holly, Valens and Richardson estates. Very proud of that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d take them to Santa Barbara or Paso Robles, Ca, maybe both if time. Ojai is great too. Calcareous winery in Paso Robles is a fave spot. Any eatery on State street in Santa Barbara is usually great.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First shoutout would have to be to my parents, Milton and Marge Mueller. They both had roots in the arts (my father was a pianist and my mother was a painter) and they encouraged me to pursue what makes me happy and that was music and theatrical shows. Second shoutout would be to my agency Bicoastal Productions that represents my shows. They really have taken my show’s awareness and bookings to a whole new level that I could not possibly have done on my own.
