Meet Jon Asher | Drummer/Composer & Graphic Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jon Asher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jon, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
First and foremost what truly has helped redefine and add extreme weight to what makes me happy has and is the ability to overcome Alcohol and Substance Abuse. That being said, there is a passion that sits deep down inside of every fiber that exists in me to play Music and create. Whether that be simply sitting on the Drums expressing myself to a crowd of anticipating onlookers or behind a computer editing and composing music and art to hopefully strike fire within the person who finds it. I was very lucky to have been granted the time and discipline to hone in on my craft and I feel it is my obligation to continue to harness this gift and protect it, feed it, and nurture it, so that it may feed other inspiring artist’s or people who need that one inspiring story or role model in their life to change their direction. One Glimpse at what truly makes me happy right now is when I play out live in one of the various projects I get asked to shred in. Right before I sit down to play the drums I look out at the crowd of strangers standing awkwardly side by side not really knowing what to do with themselves. I start playing my heart out and I watch as the faces of the crowd slowly modulate and ignite in joy and true Aw!!! regardless of age, sex, color, etc. That, right there is truly what makes me happy. The ability to truly connect with people and relate to them no matter where they are at. Everyone wants to be seen and heard and feel apart of. Art and music seems to be the string that pulls at the hearts of the stressed here in Los Angles.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career path has been all over the map in regard to how I am able to steadily hone in on and maintain my trajectory to the top of the mainstream Art and Entertainment World. It all started with an opportunity to obtain my Bachelors Degree in Graphic Arts due to an Athletic Scholarship to Play Ice Hockey for a small sports college in Chicago,IL( Robert Morris University.). I took that experience and set aside my friendships and music for the next 4yrs. After College, I came back to the motherland unsure of where I would land but ended up finding an amazing job at Vanacore Music Library Studios in Valencia,CA. through a childhood friend I used to play music with growing up before I left to go away to school. This job would shape and spark the ability inside of me to pursue music as an actual career and I would then spend the next 5yr studying music, song composition, New Technology advances in music, reality Tv royalty statements and back end business, the in’s and out’s of working in a studio with other actively successful musicians in the world I wanted to be apart of. It was a dream come true. Unfortunately, I was laid off but I took my knowledge and relationships from Vanacore Music and put them to work in my own personal music and artistic endeavors. I never stop creating no matter who I work for. I never stop learning and growing no matter what field of work I am in. This is my own personal belief that is ingrained deep down inside me. It helps get me through the mundane monotonous draining parts of life. I moved onto the next 5yrs learning and doing something completly opposite, which was construction in Commercial Electrical Fire Alarm Installations. This was a very humbling experience and took a huge tole on my body and spirit to re learn an entire new trade and set of skills but it paved the way for me to make a full emotional and physical transition back into actively chasing my dreams to becoming a successful full-time working musician, artist, entertainer, entrepreneur, and dreamer . The lesson learned along the way is nothing is ever easy or guaranteed. Your hard-work and dedication towards your goals is based on blind faith that stems from within your heart so you better be having fun and enjoying what you are doing first and foremost, regardless of the outcome. Some would call it enjoying the process but that is easier said than done when living in a very demanding world and city like Los Angles.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
O man this is fun!!
I would first take them to my favorite gym of all time. “The Meca” The world famous Golds Gym in Venice,Ca. This is where I get the best workouts and start my day off right by the beach and all the beautiful hardworking people!!
From there you Gotta go check out the famous Ameoba Records Store and Headline Records. Walk all of Melrose strip fashion district!!! And pick up and amazing art or clothing along the way.
One of my favorite eating spots in Los Angles is – All You Can Eat Sushi at Ginza Sushi in the South bay.
Hopefully there is a killer original heavy metal band playing we would then end the night at The Whiskey A go go or Hollywood Bowl in Hollywood and a night cap at Handel’s Ice cream.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I just have to give thanks to my family and friends. My family supports my wild dreams and embraces what makes me happy and defines me as a person. My friends always have my back and help guide me with good advice and support.
