Meet Jonathan Young | Videographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonathan Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonathan, how do you think about risk?
One thing my brother and I always say to each other is, “You can’t grow if you’re comfortable.” That’s been a guiding principle for me, especially in this industry. Some of the best opportunities I’ve had were the ones that scared me the most at first. But I’ve learned that fear is usually a sign that I’m stepping into something bigger—and that’s where growth happens.
The biggest risk I’ve taken so far was moving to Los Angeles last year to fully pursue my passion for videography. Leaving my loved ones behind and starting fresh in such a huge city was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But I haven’t regretted it for a second. Since then, I’ve been blessed with some incredible opportunities, met people who truly inspire me, and built friendships I know will last a lifetime. Risk has played a huge role in my career—it’s pushed me to level up creatively and personally.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My passion for storytelling came at a very young age. Whether I was putting on shows in the living room for my family or filming music videos in the backyard with the neighbor kids, I was always drawn to the idea of creating something from my imagination and bringing it to life. That drive to create stuck with me all the way through high school—I knew pretty early on that this wasn’t just a hobby, it was how I expressed myself and connected with the world.
I started off filming weddings and doing brand work for local artists, and from there, things grew pretty naturally. As I got more experience, I began finding my niche with visual effects. Once I discovered how much I loved combining storytelling with VFX, I leaned all the way in. That mix of grounded emotion and visual creativity is what really sets my work apart. I love being able to take a concept and elevate it through effects that still feel true to the story.
I want everything I create to come from a real place. I care deeply about the visuals, yes—but even more about the feeling behind them. I’m always chasing that moment where the story clicks and the visuals bring it to life in a way that feels unforgettable.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There’s so much to do in this city, and honestly, I’m still discovering new spots all the time—but if my best friend was visiting for the week, I’d make sure we hit up all the spots I’ve really enjoyed discovering. We’d start the trip with coffee in Hollywood—either Sightglass Coffee or Solar de Cahuenga (or both). I love to go thrifting, so we’d definitely stop by Silver Lake, Los Feliz, and the Melrose Trading Post on a Sunday.
For lunch, one of my go-to spots is Aroma Coffee in Studio City. The food and the whole environment there just feel good—it’s the kind of place you want to take people to because you know they’ll remember it. For a slower day, we’d head out to Point Dume in Malibu. In my opinion, it’s the prettiest beach in LA—the water is crystal clear.
I’d also make sure we spent a day at The Getty. The art is incredible, but even just walking around the space and taking in the architecture is such a vibe. And before they left, I wouldn’t let them go home without dinner at Tu Madre in Hollywood. That’s become a tradition for me and my friends—every time someone visits, we go there. It’s kind of a must.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The biggest factor behind my success is 100% the people around me. I would not be here today without them. My family and friends have been the backbone of everything I’ve built. My brother Timothy is my best friend and creative partner since the beginning. My parents are my number one supporters – always eager to see what projects I am working on. My friends have shown up for me in every way—collaborating, encouraging, pushing me to keep going. I’ve been lucky to have a support system that reminds me why I started and helps me stay grounded.
