Meet Jonny Truelove | Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonny Truelove and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jonny, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
My name is Jonnyo Dulay AKA “Jonny Truelove” I live in Los Angeles, my background is Filipino. Growing up, I felt like an outsider and was surrounded by traditional Filipino culture. Despite this, I wanted to pursue a different path than what was expected from me, such as working in the medical field as a respiratory therapist or marrying another nurse.

Instead, I found myself drawn to men’s fashion and jewelry designing. I Used my charisma and social skills, and was blessed enough to build good relationships and sell others on my artistic vision and sense of style. This is a testament to my ability to pursue my passions despite external pressures and cultural expectations. It’s important to honor your own identity and interests, even if they don’t align with what others may want for you.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In 2012, I began designing custom jewelry and created my first collection. Although I was always a part of the nightlife scene, the journey to building my brand was not an easy one. Behind the cameras and social media, I had a full-time job as a respiratory therapist and also worked as a male exotic dancer for women at night to make ends meet. I hustled multiple jobs to pay bills and fund my business venture, which ultimately led me to my breakthrough.

Over the past decade, my brand has evolved into men’s fashion, ranging from attraction pheromone fragrances to exotic leather apparel, jackets, shoes, bags, and custom jewelry. Throughout this journey, I learned valuable lessons that I hold dear. Firstly, I realized that time is a valuable asset and should not be wasted. Secondly, it’s important to learn from those who have already achieved success, regardless of what anyone, including family, may tell you. Additionally, understanding the “why” behind what you’re doing and having a strong support system are vital to success. Finally, I learned the importance of creating a solid business plan and working closely with a mentor who has a proven track record in the industry.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m so excited that you’re coming to visit me in Los Angeles! Since I love the night scene, I was thinking that we could spend our days checking out some of the best beaches in the area, like Santa Monica and Venice. We could grab lunch at a rooftop restaurant with an amazing view and try out some food that you might not have in your hometown.

I also thought it would be fun to take you to Universal Studios to check out the behind-the-scenes of where so many movies are shot. And since I have some close friends in the area who know how to have a good time, I’d love to introduce you to them and show you some of the best exclusive nightlife experiences around. We could do some fine dining and hit up some of the most exclusive nightclubs in the city!
