We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Biagomala and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I take creative risks all the time. I find those are the moments I grow the most as an artist. It’s a cliche, but I enjoy learning the rules so I can break them in creative ways. I also take risks career wise. I’ve attended workshops, joined artist collectives, and passed on “sure thing 9-5s” in order to work towards the creative future I want for myself.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My job as a DOP is to make the director’s vision come true. I am happiest when the director looks at the monitor & it’s like that’s it that’s what I had in my head because I know how that is. As a creative when you have a specific image in your head and you can’t quite get it right. Drawing and drawing and redrafting it, that drives me insane. At the end of the day, I want to create your vision. Your piece. The main reason I’ve gone into film is because it’s the ultimate group collaborative art form. A bunch of artists, painters, wardrobes, composers, actors, writers, coming together and creating something that they couldn’t do it by themselves. I like to joke that I chose the ultimate group project as my career, and I hate group projects, but the energy when you’re having a good day on set is just unbeatable.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m very new to LA! I came out here in June, so I apologize if this is a very basic list haha. I really enjoyed the Academy Museum it was so rad being immersed in a building celebrating an amazing art form! I’ve been really into this local punk band “Strawberry Fuzz” and having a blast catching local shows. For my bday my friends took me out to Republique and it was phenomenal!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s so many! I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by very supportive people all my career. My undergrad was at Madison Media Institute where my instructors and classmates who became essential collaborators. Through the school I met a Producer Lisa Kerr and she took a chance on me and allowed me to PA at Tilt Media. When I finished my undergrad I was brought on to a film being directed by an AFI alumni Mike McGuire, I was key PA and the crew saw my hustle and drive which led to a bunch of rad opportunities!
