We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Passman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your success?
I started Score a Score in 2010 by myself. When you are a solo entrepreneur (especially at 23), you have to do everything on your own. Although you may not like certain duties, and there are some that you are glaringly terrible at, building a team that brings strengths to personal weaknesses is luxury. Even though it felt like a massive leap of faith at the time, hiring Jake Weinreb in 2014, who is the current COO of Score a Score, was the most impactful decision on the company’s success. Jake and I complement each others talents, and we allow each other to do what we do best. Because Jake is such a strong integrator for our operations, I can focus my efforts where I bring the most value to the team like big picture strategizing. With his help we continue to build an amazing team. When Jake joined the team we were ready to unlock the next level of growth, and it is no coincidence that we were recognized on the 2020 Inc. 5000 list for the 5th year in a row!
What should our readers know about your business?
When I started Score a Score in 2010, I set out to simplify the collaboration between producers in need of original music and the composers who create it. With nowhere else to go, directors were turning to Craigslist to find musicians and soundtracks for their projects. That void inspired a dedicated marketplace for our community. Without knowing anyone in the industry, I turned to cold calling. My philosophy was that even if someone wasn’t interested in our services, they may be willing to introduce me to any one else that could be. By turning every meeting into another meeting, I was able to expand my network of potential clients. With Score a Score’s flexible deal structures, white-glove customer service and quality music, we help save time and money for our clients while maximizing creative strategy. Score a Score has paid out millions of dollars to its roster of independent artists, and has worked on thousands of music placements for global advertising clients. Score a Score’s recent work includes ad campaigns for Microsoft, Verizon, Apple, MasterCard, Facebook, Google, Taco Bell and LinkedIn, blockbuster trailers for all of the major film studios, and music supervision for Netflix, Amazon, YouTube and more. www.scoreascore.com
