We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Sandoval and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, why did you pursue a creative career?
All of my life I’ve always believed that all art that doesn’t already physically exist, exists somewhere else. There are so many special people that act as a vessel to capture those pieces of art that haven’t been created yet. Whether it be music, painting, cooking, drawing, etc. I’ve always felt that I’m one of those vessels. It’s just a gut feeling. I’m aware that in the grand scheme of things I know nothing, but one thing I know for sure is that art speaks to me. And I speak back! It’s a special relationship I have with the idea of creating. For me it’s always been about expression. I want to show who I am as a human and that’s why I chose a creative career

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I make music! Music has always been a passion of mine. Writing is what gets me through life. Making music allows me to be vulnerable and express myself. One thing that sets me apart from others is the fact that I’ve never been scared to be me. Throughout my life I’ve noticed the true version of me is the version that shines. Music brings that out of me. I’ve been making music for about 3-4 years now. I took a big risk by leaving my hometown and moving to LA to really get my sound out there in the world. It took some heavy sacrifice but no risk no reward. The opportunities that have presented themselves make me extremely excited for my future as an artist. It took me months to adjust to the hustle and bustle of LA. I was extremely homesick and at times I thought I made the wrong decision. But once I started trusting myself and hit my stride, I found that glow that comes with being an artist. I don’t want to be famous, I want my art to be appreciated. I think I can achieve that by continuing to trust my instincts and remain true to myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Anytime I have family or friends visit me, the first place I take them to is Roscoe’s. That breakfast will fuel any adventure packed day for anyone. Being outside is also so important. I love going to Lechuza beach because of the relaxed vibe that it carries. There’s hardly anyone there and it’s a great place for meditation and getting some sun. My favorite place for drinks is most definitely Brick Yard Pub. It’s right outside of my apartment and they have the best pool table set up ever. Also any taco stand you see on the streets is guaranteed to be delicious.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would absolutely love to shout out “The Nest”. The Nest is a non profit music program that has helped me tremendously. They held sessions/classes every week with guest speakers who all are in the music industry. The networking that came from this program was incredible. I was able to showcase my music and even perform for people that have worked with my favorite artists in the world. The program inspired me to really go hard with my music and creativity and I’m forever grateful for everything I learned there.
