We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Schudie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
My life for as long as I can remember has been centered around the arts, I never made the decision to pursue an artistic career because it was just something I always knew I was going to do. My creativity is my favorite thing about myself and I would be nowhere without it. I want to be able to inspire people with my art just as I was inspired as a kid to start creating. I’ve always known that actively choosing an artistic career was a risk that may never see a reward but I would choose this path a thousand times over just to hear that the art I create has inspired someone.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a 21 year old filmmaker and SFX makeup artist. I’ve been doing special effects makeup for a decade now, I started when I was 11. I always had to many thoughts in my brain and wanted a creative way to express them. I found body painting and SFX when I was such a young kid and my love for the art has only grown more and more every year I do it. taking my art to the next level and making films seemed like the natural next step for me now I create films centered around telling the stories that so many people can relate to but expressing them with a twist utilizing my SFX makeup. Combining stories of queer struggles, coming of age, or the different sides to love with fantastical monsters, blood and gore or whimsical makeup is my passion in life and I’m so grateful to be able to share my art with the world.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has always been my biggest support system. My parents (Rich and Heather Schudie) and my brother (Dylan Schudie) have always encouraged me to chase my dreams because they believed in the work I was doing even when I didn’t believe in myself. And my mentors that first helped me get my foot in the filmmaking door (Caroline Polly and Jessica Eskelin) they saw me as a young kid and took me under their wings and pushed me to where I am today and for how much farther I’ll go. Without my support system of my friends and family I’d be too afraid to push myself beyond my comfort zone and try, for them I’m forever grateful.
