We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Slaffey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what principle do you value most?
The principle that most matters the most to me is doing what is actually real and what the truth is. Always sticking to what I know and staying in my own lane. Always having an open mind so that when I create it can be as fresh as possible. Being true to who I am and basing my work on my own experiences.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a multi- disciplinary artist who experiments with the art of dance movement and vocalization simultaneously. I write my own music (lyrics) and choreograph my own movements within my pieces. I’m most proud of my most recent piece Anti-Faminie a piece I created focusing on the act of forgiveness. It was definitely not easy. I had the honor of creating the piece during my residency at ICA LA for four months, it was beautiful process to create this piece in the that space, but it was difficult. In my pieces I try to create room for healing for the audience and myself, so everything I do is a learning lesson. The piece within itself is a learning lesson that can teach myself and others life lessons in general based on what you received emotionally and spiritually through seeing my pieces. I want the world to know that there’s healing in what I do, it’s not just about me healing from my own artistry I want the audience to heal with me. I also want the world to know my story by me not even saying a word, see my work and through my work you will know everything you need to know about me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in the city would be any beach, Ktown and any museum.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Chris Emile
This is someone who has believed in me from the start of me starting my professional solo work. Has given several black artist the chance to show there artistic talents in LA. He also is someone I’m inspired by in general as an artist. As the creator and founder of No)one.Art House he’s broken artistic barriers that truly inspire me as an artist. Another person who I’m extremely inspired by is Cody Perkins, a composer and music producer. His music is literally out of this world and very brave, I have had the honor of working with him and can’t wait to see what other work he has to show to the world.
