Meet Jordy Martin | Comedy Writer & Performer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordy Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordy, what are you inspired by?
I’m inspired by art that truly makes me feel whatever it intended to. And my favorite art gives me the feeling of joy and laughter, I strive to make art that can give that to others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My comedy is the result of being not only “the nerdy kid who never stopped watching Scooby Doo” but also playing 12 years of contact sports thanks to a college football playing Dad. Basically I like action packed spooky worlds.
I got where I am today by mostly just being kind to others and keeping at it. Rejection stings. Best thing I can say is fully feel that pain, deal with it. Then support the hell out of whatever friends you had who did get “the thing” you got rejected for, because they deserved to get it. It’s just your job to become undeniably good in time for the next big thing.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Spent most of my time on the westside my first few years here so my answers are biased but…. favorite meal is at Marugame Udon, the best boba tea in town is at Latea Bubble Tea Lounge, favorite place to grab a drink would probably be Father’s office. So all of those are musts. And of course, catch a comedy show at M.I.’s Westside Comedy Theater.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A ton of people starting with my parents Kirk and Carmen Martin, obviously because they birthed me and love me and stuff. But also because my personality is very much 50% Dad’s nose to the grindstone practicality with 50% my Mom’s ADHD fueled goofiness. A weirdly perfect combination for trying to make it in comedy.
I also owe my college friend Rachel Samples, for being the first funny person I truly respected to believe in my comedy writing, and right when I needed it most. Mike Carr, John Hunter and SAK Comedy Lab in Orlando for being the first people to believe in my comedy performing. And all the incredible mentors I’ve met in LA that have given me invaluable advice and knowledge like Nick Armstrong, Jen Murray, Stephanie Streisand, and Dwayne Colbert. And lastly Chris Gorbos for the opportunities and amazing community he leads at M.I.’s Westside Comedy Theater that has been my home theater since I came to Los Angeles.
