We had the good fortune of connecting with Jorgelina Tortorici and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jorgelina, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind our success is the love for details. We live our work with too much dedication. Architecture is a beautiful profession.

Details give quality and make the projects unique, different from others.

Our sole purpose is the work. There‘s no interest on business. We are on an endless unceasing quest to explore different ways of living in a house. We aim at /want a sensitive architecture.

In our studio, we try not to repeat methods, but to explore new paths within each project, and understand that each commission is a new opportunity.

There is no exact formula for success. For us, success means knowing that we can improve our client’s quality of life through design. We are grateful for the immense opportunity they give us by allowing us to design their projects.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We definitely put our hearts in it.
We want the world to know that being architects for us means being creative, fearless, a bit of an explorer and passionate. We are free and structured minded at the same time.
We share the architecture we create with younger generations and colleagues because we believe that architecture is enriched by being shared.
When I started the university, I felt captivated by architecture. There I met Nicolas, my partner. Since then, we`ve being working together with our different styles but as a team.
From the moment we graduated we worked separately in different studios gaining experience. During almost ten years, we worked in different projects part time as a team.

It was when we had our first house (ADR HOUSE) that we finally set our own business. That house was the opportunity to show our identity as architects.

We’ve had many challenges. The way we face them makes us become creative and innovative. Each house is a challenge for us. We get to know deep in materials, their potential as well as their weakness. The concrete is protagonist in all of our work because of its structural potentiality. If we know about materials, we can design them in a creative way.

If I have to define my project process I will probably create an imagine that will the trigger. This image will picture the relationship between the architecture and the person in different “spots”. These spots will show how the architecture can affect the persons, considering the indoor and outdoor spaces, the lights, the nature, the sensation the house can generate in a person.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My tour will be through places where I’ve been to in Buenos Aires. A city that I love and make me feel identify with as an architect.
I will start with a dinner at the restaurant Marti Barra. The great thing about this place is that, hidden behind a single door in Recoleta, it’s an exclusive restaurant. Built between buildings and surrounded by patios, it feels like a glass box. In the central space, there is an open kitchen where delicious dishes are prepared right in front of your eyes.

Then, I will take her to the Ateneo Grand Splendid Library. It’s a library I used to visit as a student. The building was originally a theater and is now a stunning library that preserves its original balconies, ornamented decorations, and a magnificent dome in the interior.

One morning, I would take her to visit my beloved University of Buenos Aires. I was extremely happy there. It’s a magical place, brimming with ideas and teeming with students. The atmosphere is infused with design and creativity. There’s an indescribable energy that’s hard to put into words, but it’s where truly remarkable things are conceived.

Of course, I would invite her to visit my house, Oval House. This project is one of our finest. It is my personal signature. I often say that this house represents who I would be if I were a house. Every detail reflects our aspirations as architects, and here, those dreams have become reality. We had complete freedom to design and innovate.

Finally, no visit to Argentina would be complete without experiencing a traditional asado de obra. It’s a wonderful moment on some Fridays when all the workers take a break from their tasks to cook for everyone at the construction site. The client, the architects, and the workers come together to share a hearty asado.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I would like to dedicate this to my mother, who has believed in me since I decided to study architecture. I also want to acknowledge my husband, who has been an incredible motivator and always sees the best in me. His support, especially while I am a mother of three children, has been essential to my development as an independent professional.
