We had the good fortune of connecting with Josephine Clarke and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josephine, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I grew up in the Arts and would literally dream of performing in stadiums. I would put on concerts for my cabbage patch dolls, and even did a full 30 minute Barbie dance workout for “show and tell” at school so Performing is in my blood. Being an artistic child meant I was sometimes misunderstood but I never cared. I knew my calling was in the arts because that’s the only thing that truly made me feel happy and complete.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an unapologetic, honest, creative who still has so much to show and prove to the world. I have been working in the industry in some capacity since a child whether it be modeling, theater, singing, or dancing…I have been a professional since I can remember thanks to my parents. I took the leap and moved across country from Alabama to California to be around my peers; and that in itself was a feat to conquer. I feel like everyone has a creative soul mate(s) and I mine is Snipe Young. He understands my voice and writing style so we work really well together; even when we both have very strong opinions on something it always comes out amazing. I am a classically trained vocalist with roots in the Pentecostal church so even in that my style of music is a mixture of textures with some familiarity. As a new mother I’m re-learning about myself so my new music may reflect that because I want it to always be authentic. After taking time off to enjoy my pregnancy, postpartum, and lockdown I am back in the studio and ready to show my son the world. Before Covid shut everything down I had planned on traveling with my new music but this taught me that it’s ok to take a step back, regroup, and to go forward. I needed that moment to figure out who I truly was as an artist and although I’m still figuring it out, I’m closer to the answer.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a social homebody lol but we have to hit up The Boiling Crab for an order of snowcrab with the whole Shabang sauce and lemon pepper fries. We can also hit up my sis’ event “The Juice Joint” for some live music and good libations. We will hit the beach and possibly a chill hookah spot. I’m a more “go with the flow” chick.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this to my son whom just turned 6 months. He is making me relearn how to not only care and love him, but how to care and love myself. I’m more careful and intentional with my words and thoughts because of him. I am definitely more determined to be successful.
