We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Granovsky and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Josh, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think I was part of a large wave of people who realized during C****-19 that balance was not optional. For much of lockdown, I would wake up, walk straight to my desk, attend class on Zoom, log off in time to start a job in a different time zone, use my leftover energy for homework and writing, and then go to bed. I can hear my therapist screaming. I love being a writer, and I also love roping my friends into playing badminton with me. I can’t do one without the other so these days, balance rules supreme.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a comedy writer, mostly of scripts for TV and movies. I like to think my brand of humor is energetic and absurd, undercut with grounded, relatable emotions. I believe comedy truly has no limits in terms of genre or target audience, which is why you can sometimes find my work on cool, zeitgeist-y shows like Hulu’s Letterkenny, or an intimate short film about body image, or a Chicken Soup for the Soul book entitled “Tough Times Won’t Last But Tough People Will.” Yes, that is the real title of the book. I have the range!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve been lucky to have a lot of friends visit me for a weekend, so I like to think I’ve mastered the art of planning a Sunday. My go-to Sunday involves lunch at Jon and Vinny’s in Fairfax, walking over to the Melrose Trading Post and buying the wildest sunglasses you’ve ever seen, strolling over to the Academy Museum, grabbing sushi at KazuNori up the block, and then returning to the museum for their Sunday night movie. I saw “When Harry Met Sally” for the first time in their massive 1,000-seat theater, and it was a religious experience.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’m going to give this one to my mom. My entire sense of humor developed because of, or maybe in reaction to, her. She is the funniest person in the world, and she’s never made a joke in her life.
