We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Fort and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my career in photography has taught me is the necessity of challenging myself. Embracing the mindset of constantly striving to improve has been pivotal in advancing my creative skills and business. I’ve learned that pushing beyond what feels comfortable is essential for reaching the next level of artistic achievement and professional success

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a reflection of my journey as a 20-year-old creative pushing boundaries in Los Angeles. What sets me apart is my relentless dedication to challenging myself and taking on projects that others might shy away from. I thrive in the intense environment of LA’s creative scene, where networking and consistency are crucial, almost like playing on hardcore mode.

Getting to where I am today professionally involved immersing myself in challenging opportunities, from pitching to major corporations to tackling demanding projects head-on. These experiences have taught me the invaluable lesson that presentation is key in the creative industry. How I present myself—from my appearance to my online presence—plays a pivotal role in capturing attention and opportunities.

My brand represents a blend of passion for art and a keen understanding of business dynamics. Taking a deliberate two-year gap to pursue my artistic ambitions has shown me that success as an artist often involves mastering the intersection of art and commerce. I want the world to know that I’m not just a photographer or artist; I’m a young visionary dedicated to bridging the gap between artistry and entrepreneurship.”

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting, I’d start with a cozy breakfast at a local diner, followed by exploring our vibrant arts scene and enjoying lunch at a hidden gem café. We’d spend the afternoon hiking in a nearby nature reserve and unwind with dinner at a waterfront restaurant. The next day, we’d delve into the city’s history with a guided tour, indulge in street food at a bustling market, and cap off the evening with cocktails at a rooftop bar. Our week would be filled with cultural experiences, outdoor adventures, and culinary delights, ensuring they have the best time exploring everything our area has to offer.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to the Dakar Foundation, Ej, NASA, DJ, Kai, and many others who have played significant roles in my career. Their support, mentorship, and encouragement have been invaluable in shaping my path and fostering my growth as a photographer. I am grateful for their contributions to my journey and for believing in my creative vision.
