We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I have a couple actually, but I’ll tell you about the one that stands out the most. I’m a big wrestling fan, one thing that one of my favorite wrestlers said in a speech was “decide what to be and go be it”. That really made the initial decision to chase a career like being a musician that obviously isn’t super “safe” a much easier and more clear path for me. I think not just in your career, but in any aspect of your life, the difference between where you are and where you want to be is just a decision away. Am I exactly where I want to be? No not yet, but I’ve started the climb to get there.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I try my best to make art out of my music, a lot of popular music especially has become so homogenized and been treated more as a commodity than an art form. Is my music the most sophisticated and beautiful thing you’ll ever hear? No, but I believe it’s authentic and attacks very relatable problems and emotions head on in a very grandiose way. Mixing hard rock and metal with orchestra has been done many times before me, but I try to make the orchestra a big part of the piece, not just a pad in the background. That paired with a heavy focus on melodic vocals and headbangable- if that’s a word- riffs would pretty much describe my music in a nutshell. I’m really excited for all the ideas in my head to become a reality. I have so much planned for my future as an artist, and I think people will be shocked when they hear and see what I have in store, in the best way possible.

My journey to where I am now has been a bit of a struggle, I think it was Myles Kennedy who said “success in the music business is just a matter of who can deal with the most fake people” which I can totally see where he’s coming from in my short time being an active musician. It’s been mostly a very fun experience, and I haven’t played any major stages just yet but I believe in my heart that it’s coming. The biggest thing I’ve learned from being in the industry is some people will just hate you no matter how nice and how giving you are to them. Pretty much all musicians talk trash about each other in some way, and you being nice to them and wanting the best for them won’t change that. Just be kind to everyone without expecting them to return the favor, and you should be alright.

I suppose the ultimate thing I’d want people to understand from my brand is to make art out of your pain and to feel your emotions to the fullest, because they make you human. And what I’d like for people to learn from my story is that not fighting to live your fullest life is a waste of your time and an insult to your potential. Living a safe or comfortable life to please others is an insult to yourself. I believe you NEED to chase down the version of you that can do the most good, and live succeeding at something they love. Sort of comes back to the “decide what to be and go be it” thing. choose a path and go. If it’s the wrong path, you’ll adjust. Don’t settle for a lesser version of yourself.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I’m a huge theme park guy, and the closest park in the area is Universal, so we’d definitely go there. I do also love the Grove as well, especially during night time. I haven’t done enough exploring as far as restaurants go though, most of what’s in our area are big chains. If they haven’t been to California though I am legally obligated to take them to In N Out. It’s a necessity. Aside from that maybe hit up the beach, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica Pier, places like that.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s too many people to count, man. I’d say the single most important person is my mom. She was always so incredibly supportive of my music. She went to every show I played back home in Florida, she moved me into my new apartment when I went to music school. She listened to every song even though she normally isn’t into hard rock or metal music, she was the person who I was never afraid to share ideas with, I knew she cared about me doing what I loved and being my truest self. She gave me hope and empathy, which are my two traits I’m the most proud of.

Of course I owe a lot of my opportunities to my dad as well, he helped just as much as my mom and has supported my career from an entirely different perspective which has been invaluable. He taught me tenacity and the power of the individual, and was the first to tell me I could do anything I wanted with this life. All the local and professional musicians I met along the way who gave me validation and helped me perfect my craft, the hard rock and metal scenes in Orlando and LA are growing like crazy and you tend to find more good people than bad people in those spaces which surely isn’t how it used to be. My role models and inspirations in all my passions, my favorite musicians, pro wrestlers, entertainers, and motivational gurus, for inspiring me in the beginning and helping me form my brand and my purpose. The friends and family who’ve supported and cheered for me as well. There’s too many people I owe a thank you to it’s impossible to list them all. And I’m not even where I envision myself being yet.
