We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Morey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Playing baseball my whole life has taught me that life is a game of failure. In baseball, the best hitters fail 7 out of 10 times. Learning to deal with failure has been one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned as I approach my life and career. Changing my mindset to accept failure as a part of the process has allowed me to get beyond the fear of what could happen and focus on the lessons learned that build for the future. Even when I lose I win.

What should our readers know about your business?
The J. Morey Company, is a full service insurance brokerage with five offices throughout California. Our dedication to service is what sets us apart from everyone else. This past year we were voted the BEST insurance agency in downtown LA be LA Downtown news. This award is exciting because it echoes the community we serve and the hard working employees that helped us get here. My family has done business in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles for over 100 years. It hasn’t always been easy, and we had to restart multiple times but the resiliency and commitment to our community has allowed us to keep going. ,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love food so would plan a food tour of all the ethnic neighborhoods of Los Angeles. The beauty of LA is in it’s diversity.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We are only as good as the shoulders we stand upon. I’d like to give credit to my Dad (John Morey), and Uncles (Jack and Jim Morey), who risked everything to start the business that I carry on today. In Japanese there’s a saying called, “Kodomono tameni” which means to create a better future for the next generation. I hope to continue my family’s legacy and create a better world for my kids and the generations that follow.
