We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Salgado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joshua, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind the success of my brand is to be clear and confident on my creative vision.

Based in Los Angeles and inspired by his Latin American roots, Salgado is a producer and DJ that creates and plays drum-heavy dance and electronic music. As a first-generation American born to a Mexican mother and Ecuadorian father, Salgado uses music to connect to his heritage and to create a community that includes a wide spectrum of cultures. His original music and re-mixes are inspired by the music and drumming traditions of the Caribbean, Central America and South America, to create sets that are joyful, social and high energy.

After studying music technology, audio engineering and drumming at the California Institute of the Arts, Salgado is now exploring his passion for audio engineering and music production as a staff member at Paramount Recording Studios in Hollywood, CA. Previously, also working out of Melrose Sound Studios in the Hollywood Hills.

The California native frequently gigs and plays shows in the greater Los Angeles area, having performed at venues including; The Room Hollywood, Jungle Hollywood, REDCAT, Delicious Pizza, Fiona’s Los Angeles, Social Desert Festival, along with occasional private house parties in the hills.

Salgado has also recorded and released multiple DJ sets, most recently as part of the DJ collective HAL0STATION. Notable recorded sets include; Salgado | DTLA DJ Set and most recent Salgado | Hollywood DJ Set available on Youtube @hal0station.

In 2022 he released Wawa, a “rinsed-out amen jungle roller” on UK label Touched Music as part of a compilation curated by renowned electronic composer John Tejada.

In 2025, upcoming releases include Vente A Bailar, a track featuring vocals from Salgado and frequent collaborator VANT!N, drums and latin percussion played by Salgado, horn arrangements by Hugo Tanov, and an infectious bassline from Khristian Guiess. This latin infused track will be released on Deepbeat Collective, an LA based label for independent artists created by music producer and label head Magh. The single will be released alongside a Latin House Extended remix and Dub mix also produced by Salgado and VANTiN.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from other’s is my passion for being involved in the full creative process of creating music and performing. I feel most proud of myself when I produce, write, engineer, mix, and master my music up until the moment I play it at a club and see people move to it. It has not been easy to get to where I’m at professionally, but I’m still paying my dues in this industry and learning as much as I can along the way. With every challenge I have faced so far, I overcome them by focusing on what is central to my core; my passion for music. Chasing the moments of making something exciting in the studio, or the rush of performing live and making people move. I’ve learned that this industry is an especially difficult industry to find success in, and to be an artist you have to do it for the right reasons in order to make a sustainable career out of this. I want the world to know that the most fulfilling thing for me is to create a welcoming space for my audience to dance and express themselves.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to the beach. Malibu Surfrider is one of my favorite beaches to visit. Walk around on Sunset Blvd in West Hollywood. We would definitely go out most nights hahaha…and end up at an after’s? Some of my favorite clubs/bars for dance music include; Sound Nightclub, Station 1640, The Spotlight, Gold Line, The Room Hollywood, and The Bungalow.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to the LA based DJ collective I’m a member of.

HALOSTATION is a Los Angeles-based DJ collective born from a shared love of electronic music. Founded by students and alumni at California Institute of the Arts who were inspired not just by their love of music but their passion for understanding, creating, and producing it. This collective is made up of young artists who have dedicated their academic and social lives to an immersion in electronic music and are now taking it to the next level by hosting events.

In addition to the DJs, the collective includes producers, videographers and designers who collaborate to create energetic one-of-a-kind experiences that come to life in person and online. Central to their core is a mission to build a community, an evolving group that promotes and celebrates up-and-coming artists. Each DJ has a unique sound and deep personal roots that has informed their music; their individual sets are layered in ways that complement and build on one another. The collective is an ever-changing, dynamic, and expansive entity that continually grows and embraces new artists who are fundamental to the vision of collaboration and joy that comes from sharing a love of music.
