We had the good fortune of connecting with Jourdan Sweeney and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jourdan, how do you define success?
My definition of success would be hitting my personal goals and consistently working on high-profile projects that are critically acclaimed. Being recognized for my talent and making an impact on the audience that is watching my projects is also a crucial part of success. The true definition of success in my opinion is fulfilling my potential while finding happiness in my craft. Success is about living a life that aligns with one’s values and aspirations. I have had these aspirations since I was a child and it’s finally here. The most fulfilling part about my acting career is my family getting to witness my entire journey with all of the up’s and downs that came along the way; now everything is coming full circle. That’s success in my book.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an Actor, Hooper and content creator. I can generate a wide range of content, from sports related to non-sports related content. I have range as an actor and can play other roles besides just an athlete. This versatility allows me to adapt to the various needs and styles of casting directors. I am most proud of landing a recurring role on one of the biggest shows on TV (BMF) as it was one of my goals when I first got into the industry. I am also excited about my role as Jared Dudley on the show “Clipped” based on the Los Angeles Clippers and the Donald Sterling scandal that will be out June 4th on FX. Consistency and staying proactive instead of reactive is a big part of where I am today. Success often requires teamwork and getting different perspectives to overcome challenges like not getting the role that you wanted to get. You definitely must have thick skin to be in this industry and it sure wasn’t easy adapting to this; if it was everyone would be acting. A few major lessons I learned was that I have to constantly improve my craft and strive to get better. Having good people in my corner Is essential like my good friend Tyran Brown who always kept me motivated and always gave me good advice whenever I needed it. Collaboration is also a major key to success. There’s an old saying “teamwork makes the dream work”. Lastly, I’ve learned that you have to really go out get it yourself and not just rely on your agent or manager to get the work for you. I want people to know that I am a living testament to how consistency pays off. I went through every emotion throughout my acting journey from feeling on top of the world to wanting to stop acting completely and sticking with it has paid dividends.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Day 1-I would take them to Venice Beach to see the sights then hit the Edwin hotel rooftop after. Day 2-Go hiking at Griffith park then hit the observatory.
Day 3-we would go to pasta sisters in Culver City then hit the 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica.
Day 4-Hit sky’s tacos on pico then hit all seasons brewery in mid city later that day.
Day 5- go to simply wholesome in view park to kick start the day then hit LA live.
Day 6-Santa Monica pier then the bungalow that night
Day 7-Visit Malibu to the beach then hit Level 8 in downtown

Level 8, All seasons brewery, and the Bungalow in Santa Monica are some of the best spots in the city in my opinion.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I want to shoutout my parents Calvin and Zivia Sweeney. My mother is a professor at USC and my father used to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers for 9 years so they know what it takes to be successful. They’ve always encouraged me to keep striving to be great and stick to my goals. Anytime I’ve needed anything or even just words of wisdom they have always been in my corner. Next I want to shoutout my sports manager, Greg “Smitty” Smith who kickstarted my acting career back in 2014 and has stuck by me ever since. Last but not least I want to give a shoutout to my Uncle Sam who held me down while I was shooting BMF (Black Mafia Family) in Atlanta, whether it was rehearsal, long shoot day, or any industry related event he made sure I got there with no issue. I am forever grateful for every single one of them and the lasting impact they have had on my career.
