We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juan, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued my Stand up Career, because I came from a Family of U.S.C. graduates but was never really interested in pursuing my Education after High School, instead I discovered Stand up Comedy and took my Intelligence into Comedy when I was Sixteen years old. I started at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, through their Youth comedy camp and never looked back.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started as a teenager still in High School My comedy comes from unfavorable situations and Adversity in my life turned into Humor, I always considered myself the “underdog”, so I used it to Create my comedy formulas and bring my stories to life. I reached my level of Success by opening up for Established comedians early in my career, comedians such as Carlos Mencia, Jo Koy, Tommy Davidson, and Felipe Esparza. Comedy is such a competitive industry that nothing came easy, I was surrounded by really Strong comedians, that it forced me to adapt to their level. One of the biggest lesson I learned is you have to be around better performers to grow into the best. 2nd biggest lesson I learned was to accept that every show isn’t always going to go well. I remember getting bood by 700 people in Arkansas, and contemplating quitting. 3rd lesson was that it’s a marathon not a race and your success might come in mile 3 or mile 26 but longevity is the thing that matters, doing things that keep you relevant. I want my story to inspire people who have aspirations or ambition to pursue their Dream and Manifest everything in their wildest dreams. It’s all possible.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would Get in my Lexus open the Sun roof and cruise Pacific coast Highway from Long Beach all the way to San Clemente while listening to music, coastal view and Enjoying the breeze. Since i love playing basketball I would Get up early and go play basketball at the Venice courts. I would drive and find the best Tacos, best Boba, chinese food, and lastly mexican Seafoodin L.A. I’m proud of being from Los Angeles and showing people all the great things my city.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like this article to pay homage to all my fallen comedy comrades who passed away pursuing this crazy stand up comedy career and to inspire people who have a Dream not to be Afraid to live up to their full potential.
