Meet Juan Leyva | Black Tux Bartending | Owner / Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Leyva of Black Tux Bartending and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Juan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I can be resolute when it comes to getting things done. I currently have a full time job, but Bartending always drew my attention; it was always something I wanted to do out of curiosity and when I did, I was often told by family members I was good at it. More and more the idea of bartending grew, so I decided to go for it. I had a book full of ideas on how to do it and what I wanted to do. Unfortunately, not everything is as easy as it seems. I started with the name, Black Tux Bartending. The name came from how I envisioned the service and myself. I wanted to provide quality service and in a formal environment. I then designed and played around with different logos for about a month until I found the one I liked, the one that fit the name. After that, it was time to set everything in motion. I got my alcohol server certifications and began bartending for family and friends who then referred me to other family and friends. Eager to learn and get more experience behind the bar, I began to work with other bartenders and companies where I got the opportunity to work multiple concerts, festivals with 70,000+ guests and other private events. These events taught me everything about working in a high-paced environment and all was implemented to my business.

What should our readers know about your business?
I believe what sets us apart from others is our attention to detail. It’s not just about showing up and making a drinks. We ensure each guest receives a high level of service, feels special, and has a wonderful time during the celebration. We’re passionate about what we do. We work hard to create cocktails that are not only delicious but also visually stunning to give our clients an unforgettable drinking experience.
Having a full-time job and running a small business on the side is not easy at all. Work is constant 24/7, if you will. I like to overlook everything to make sure things run as I want them to, so I personally do all the scheduling, managing of contracts, invoices, menus, inventory and meeting clients after a long day of work which can sometimes be overwhelming. It’s a sacrifice that needs to be made in order for things to run smoothly. Once you get the hang of it, it’s not that bad.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I can’t narrow down my shoutout to just one person, but a group of people. My wife, kids, parents, brother and sisters, but also all the amazing people I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of working with throughout these years. I want to thank my wife for always having my back, supporting everything I do and testing my drinks to make sure they’re on point lol. Lastly, I want to shoutout every single person who has booked with us because without them, Black Tux Bartending wouldn’t be what it is today.
